May Surgery Dates???

Recommended Posts

thank you everyone... I'm glad you think it was ok to post this. I didn't want to be negative but at the same time, that is what happened and yes I hope it can help someone else!!

Leanne... that sounds pretty awful, what you are going through... I'm sorry to hear that. I hope that things improve... did you call the office? It might be worth checking into if you don't feel better soon. I've heard that at "that time of the month" things are tight and can cause problems... hopefully that's all it is.

That sounds terrible. I'm glad you decided to share your story so that people know what signs to look for on what is not normal. I feel like I was being a baby now after hearing that. Hope all goes well from here on out!

Awww, no, I'm sure you weren't being a baby!! Pain is very personal and real to you no matter what :(

Here's to all of us healing and feeling better soon!

Hi everyone, I haven't been on line in a while. Cat whisperer I'm sorry for all that you went through. Did you know that the surgeon had put Fluid in at surgery? I just assumed it was empty? I'm glad you are feeling better.

And to those of you that are less than 7 days out from your surgery, you will feel better...just be patient. I was not a happy camper. But, tomorrow it will be 14 days for me, and I am happy...a week ago, I wasn't liking this banded life.

I was surprised to hear about the fluids in the band too...I thought he told me he doesn't put any fluid in the band to start with but perhaps I heard him wrong. Did he mention anything to you in the hospital Cat?

My post op instructions said no baths, hot tubs, or swimming for one week. I think that's a little soon, but it's doctor's orders. BTW, I work for a school and have summers off, but scheduled my surgery in May so I could swim/lay out all summer long! Priorities! LOL

My post op instructions are no submersion for at least two weeks...they need to make sure your surgical sites are completely healed...you can get a bad infection if your not careful. check with your doc...maybe they're healed up!!

Hi - I had assumed it was empty as well - so I didn't quite get it when they were talking about removing fluid. I asked him about it, and he said they usually "prime" it a bit... he did take out 4cc of fluid leaving my band empty for now.

So yeah, it was a surprise to me as well - I thought he had said no fluid as well, Leanne!! So you must have some as well, which may explain your very full feeling!

Well neato...that's kind of neat really. How are you feeling today?

Someone on a previous post, who had my same surgeon, said he puts Fluid in the band at surgery too. I, of course, forgot to ask, but I'm sure he did it in mine too. That's probably why I don't feel hungry in the morning or between meals (which is VERY uncommon for me). I don't think I'll get a fill at my follow up appointment in a week. Why mess with a good thing, right?!

That just made me think of a new topic. For those of you post surgery....When do you go for your first doctor's appointment? Are you going to have a fill?

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
