Working Out Vs Calorie Intake

Recommended Posts

I have been working out 2 times a day, cardio in the morning and weight lifting in the afternoon. I find that I have been getting light headed during my weight training. I am eating between 900-1100 calories a day and everyone tells me that I am not eating enough. I am worried that I am creating to much of a calorie deficit. I don't want to give up working out, but I also don't know how I can eat more without defeating the purpose of the band. Does/has anyone else have this issue? Any suggestions?

Are you taking any blood pressure meds? I suffered the same symptoms when I first started to exercise heavily but as I got stronger they went away?

Sounds like a question for your doctor?

TMF makes a good point. If you are in blood pressure meds or even if your blood pressure is making jumps and dips on it's own, it will cause that.

However it could also be your blood sugar falling and/or not eating enough. Or possibly the right type of calories.

I would speak to your nutritionist. Tell them what is happening and see if they can recommend anything to help. I'd also have your doc check your blood pressure, too.

Best wishes.

On days that I work out I boost my calories 250-350calories. I was also feeling lightheaded and on February 17 about hit the floor at a crossfit competition because my blood sugar dropped A LOT. Once I picked up my caloric intake I haven't had any problems. I am still under my 1200 calories for the day with no issues at all.

Also about one hour before I work out I have a progenex Protein drink! CrossFit is pretty intense and I would hate to stop doing it so with the little food increase I can do it! I have also been have almond butter with bananas for Snacks on days I workout.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!

I am not a professional but it seems to me that you have to eat calories to burn calories.. If you work out you need to intake more calories (fuel) or your body will cling to your fat and prevent weight loss.l On days when you or anyone works out I think you should raise your calories or at least add a high Protein Shake. I learn just by watching IP's weight loss and how amazing she has done because of this.

How many days a week are u doing "double sessions"?.. Your body might be trying to tell you that you're over training.

I usually only do double sessions Mon-Fri and rest on the weekends. I only get light headed when doing the weight lifting. This even happened when I was only doing the weight lifting and no morning cardio so I wouldn't think its so much over training, but what do I know. Monday I ate more and that seemed to help. Its just a hard thing to wrap your brain around needed to eat more to loose weight.

Thanks Everyone!

Your most likely over training.. Workouts should really be no longer than an hour - 90 minutes in 1 sessions..

Double sessions which are used for athletic training or body building should be no longer than 45 mins per session

example: Leg Day

- Morning: Quads

- Evening: Hamstrings & Calves

or

Chest & Triceps

- Morning: Chest

- Evening: Tricep

Rotate each region each day

The purpose of a double session is to work out a muscle region for optimum results by not over working the region.

If your not giving your body adequate rest and nutrition your doing all that work for nothing. I would suggest getting a trainer to work on a proper work out regimen for you so you don't waste your time, get discouraged, or even worse, hurt yourself..

If you can't afford a trainer ( like right now I totally can't) there are many fitness forums that you can get some really good advice from. I even had a very nice personal trainer give me a work out schedule to start off with for my body type for free!

Also for weightloss you should look into circuit training and h.i.i.t training. They are GrEAT for burning fat.

I work with a trainer 4 days a week doing the weight lifting. I felt like I wasn't getting any/enough cardio which is why I started doing cardio in the morning. My trainer is telling me I need to eat more which is hard to wrap my head around. The logical part of my brain understands, but the fat girl in me doesnt.

Ok that changes everything., drink a Protein shKe within 30 mins of your workout.. You will start feeling better and instead of doing the double session.. Try one day to do some H.i.i.t training which is high intensity interval training.. Great for endurance and fat burning..

20 minutes of that will equal to about 2 hours of cardio but you won't be over doing it..

One of the most important aspects of exercising is rest

As to calories being increased.. I would consult my nutrionist.. Because personal trainers are not educated in nutrition , as they should be.

Making sure you have enough Protein is very important! Maybe add in a snack of string cheese and turkey slice (around 100 cals!) will help!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
