I've been on liquids for 7 days, and I can't take it anymore! I'm not supposed to start mushy foods until Thursday, but I want to start slowly tomorrow; maybe a soft boiled egg for Breakfast. If I tolerate it well, is there any reason I need to wait until Thursday?? I can't drink another drink.....I'm going out of my fricken mind  All I want is a 1/4 cup of cottage cheese!!!

You can do it. I did 4 weeks of liquids post op. You're healing and if your Dr said to wait, then waiting is what you should do. Hang in there :)

Yes, there's many reasons you have to wait until Thursday. First and foremost because your doctor said so. Second, you're on the post op diet to give your stomach time to heal. Third, you also had your gallbladder out so your digestive system is even more assaulted.

Stick to your post op diet. It's not worth the risks of straying from it.

Btw, I had 4 weeks of liquids too. You can handle a few more days.

Best wishes

Just hit a wall with it today; total meltdown. You're right, though.....they set it up that way for a reason, and I'll just have to suck it up (ugh)

I completely agree with you and there are days when it is SO hard. I'm on clear for 2 weeks, then full for 2 more weeks. I am not supposed to have solids for four more weeks, based on his progressive post-op diet plan. I have difficulty rationalizing the doctor's order when I read so many varying post-op diets on here. But then I have to say to myself, he's the doctor, he's who I am paying to help me through this, I need to trust his judgment.

We will get through it. Just imagine this is the most difficult part of the entire journey and if we get this, we're golden for the rest of the trip!

Happy thoughts coming your way.

Cottage cheese is a a solid per my nutritionist! Stick with it, you are healing an could do damage to your healing process. You can do it, most of us have made it. As stated from by jlly_bean, I had a whole month of liquid, too. If you are going to do anything, try real liquidy cream of wheat, that was on my full liquid diet!Best wishes, Karen

Thanks, Rosie.....I can't imagine Clear Liquids for two weeks. You've REALLY got it hard!! Mine is full liquids for 10 days, which makes a total 13 days when the two days pre-op are included.

Some of the post-op diets I read through the forums surprise me. So many doctors do it differently, but it almost seems like some don't really advise on what their patients should do right after surgery. I've read where some doctors told patients to eat what they can tolerate. That doesn't make any sense to me, and I'd rather have a doctor that proceeds with caution, instead of opening the gate to G-d knows what.

I emailed my doctor last night (he makes himself available to his patients with questions or concerns). I asked him if the liquids were all about making sure that I don't get sick or nauseated, or if it was all about healing. Here is his response......

"It's all a healing issue. The original period of liquids was four weeks. Some programs still use it. We cut ours down to ten days of liquids. There are lots of things that can go wrong with an operation. And many of those things are triggered by patients jumping ahead of the schedule believing that its ok. I can't tell you how many patients have jumped ahead and had problems. Please stick with the liquids until Thursday then you can advance to mushy foods. You only have to do this once"

Thank you SO MUCH for posting his response. That makes it easier for all of us!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
