Metamucil stuck in band... WTF!

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I have been having problems "going" #2. Can't pass gas, not having gas pains from surgery oddly enough. This is day 2 post-op and I drank some metamucil a bit too fast. It got stuck and I PB'd twice and am still having problems.

Can't take my pain meds, what should I do? Will the esophagus do it's muscle magic and break it up?

It's been about an hour and I just took my pain meds. It stayed down so I guess my esophagus did it's job and the metamucil will be put on hold for a while.... Screw that stuff... Iol

That was not an experience I wanted to go thru this early. I had a call from the nurse at the surgery center like 10 minutes before this started, at that time everything was great... Hahaha

The Fiber swells up when it is mixed into Water. It kinda looks like tapioca in water. Think sticky gel like building blocks.

Your Dr. is smart and I should have asked mine before trying this stuff since it isn't on the list. Live and learn I guess.

I am one week out. Also had gas/bowel issues. Miralax perscribed and it worked. Took 3 days though.

Picture a funnel.....the thicker the liquid the slower it passes through the narrow opening (some narrow, some not at all) ........you pour too much too fast..even Water for me..it fills quickly and comes right back up...

Now that's a PB.....

Metamucil can get very thick very fast...

I put 30ml of liquid medical grade fiber in my morning shake....the stuff they use to put through GT (feeding) tubes in the hospital....

Most definitely! It was very uncomfortable. How long generally do you feel the irritation from a PB? I am going on a few hours, but then again it was my first one, hopefully I can prevent future ones.

Live and learn....slow and easy.....you have just been taught a lesson....there will be more to come, but think about this....It's good to know the Band is There and Working.....And it is TALKING to you....we need to "Listen" to our bands....

I get more concerned when everything is quiet......

When things Like this happen(ed) to me, I did not FREAK OUT...(well maybe a little, at first) ....but took it as a learning tool, all part of the curve.........but I'm a hard head, and sometimes it took me 2-3 times before I finally accepted the fact I can't do this and that without some risk......

That's behavior Modification.....the thing I needed to get thin and create a new lifestyle......

Ouch you poor thing, Metamucil is something I was warned against not taking by my nutritionist because of it glugging up and blocking the opening as you've experienced. Not sure if you guys over there can get benefibre, I take that every morning dissolved into my Water and have never had problems. Lately I've started using psyllium husks, do a google search, very good for us. I sprinkle it into my food also.

All better now, SLOWLY sipping my Protein Shake now. It's making it's way through the opening.

Do you guys get hiccups as an onset symptom of PB?

Glad you're feeling better, personally I don't get hiccups after pbing. When I pb I stick to liquids for the rest of the day to let the irritation/swelling settle then move to soft foods then back to normal. Because you've pb'd you've probably caused some swelling so you're at more risk of having more stuck then pbing episodes. Stick to liquids for a day or so, depending on how severe your pbing was and be extra mindful of the size of your bites and chewing very well till you're back to normal.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
