Lost the band... it slipped

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I like to follow the fourms, but don't post, but I feel that I need to tonight. I just lost my band on Friday, and boy did that hurt not just physically but emotionally too. I meet with my surgeon next week to talk about options. I'm not sure what to do at this stage, just so many questions. I sometimes think I can do this with out the band and then I'm just sure. Anyone else have this problem?

I had the band placed 2008. It was placed a little high up and was a small pouch. I had EGD and found that out.

but I think it was the heartburn and the vomiting for the last 2 weeks that did it. My thoughts, but I really will never know for sure.

I am so sorry. Vomiting will definitely cause a slip, but what caused the vomiting?

Was it a 4cc band by chance?

Best wishes, Sweetnana1, I had a slip back 1 1/2 years ago. The surgeon did an readjust of teh band without having to replace it. If you are on medicare, (at least 2 years ago), they will pay for replacement if needed. Best wishes. Karen

I had to have my restitched and my surgeon added plication (folding the stomach in and stitching it - similar to a gastric sleeve). Plicating the stomach with gastric banding has been shown to cut way down slips.

If that had not been an option, I would have definitely gone with the sleeve. I don't want to ever have to try to manage my weight without some kind of help!!

I'm going to have the plication done with my band a week from today. I'm doing it for this very reason. From what they know at this point, it dramatically minimizes the potential for slips, and fills are less frequently needed. That, and that it reduces the stomach capacity to 1/4 of normal capacity.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
