Lost the band... it slipped

Hi,

I like to follow the fourms, but don't post, but I feel that I need to tonight. I just lost my band on Friday, and boy did that hurt not just physically but emotionally too. I meet with my surgeon next week to talk about options. I'm not sure what to do at this stage, just so many questions. I sometimes think I can do this with out the band and then I'm just sure. Anyone else have this problem?

I had the band placed 2008. It was placed a little high up and was a small pouch. I had EGD and found that out.

but I think it was the heartburn and the vomiting for the last 2 weeks that did it. My thoughts, but I really will never know for sure.

I am so sorry. Vomiting will definitely cause a slip, but what caused the vomiting?

Was it a 4cc band by chance?

It was an older band the Realize Adjustable Gastric Band it holds 10 cc of fluid.

Best wishes, Sweetnana1, I had a slip back 1 1/2 years ago. The surgeon did an readjust of teh band without having to replace it. If you are on medicare, (at least 2 years ago), they will pay for replacement if needed. Best wishes. Karen

I had to have my restitched and my surgeon added plication (folding the stomach in and stitching it - similar to a gastric sleeve). Plicating the stomach with gastric banding has been shown to cut way down slips.

If that had not been an option, I would have definitely gone with the sleeve. I don't want to ever have to try to manage my weight without some kind of help!!

Thank you all for the support, it really helps to know that someone else had similar problems.

Best wishes and Keep the Faith. Your doctor should be able to help you with the proper choice.

I'm going to have the plication done with my band a week from today. I'm doing it for this very reason. From what they know at this point, it dramatically minimizes the potential for slips, and fills are less frequently needed. That, and that it reduces the stomach capacity to 1/4 of normal capacity.

I had my band reduced after the first year n I'm in for three years now but since the fix two years ago I have not lost I've put the weight on I had things checked thyroid, the band again an all looks the sand but I cannot loose weight Lost 80 in the first year n now I'm up for 40 back n j feel I'm still gaining my last fill I wax up to 7 cc n it is tight I've been back coughin st nite again

Maybe my diet is not helpin

The reason why my band slipped n the weight was comin off I was eatin then vomitin for weeks then it happened

I'm kinda discouraged n I want to have takin out Feelin something wrong n why I can't loose

I'm feelin like a failure to this
