In 2008 I needed help. I was 256 pounds type 2 diabetic and using 9 vials of Novolog each month. I saw an ad for the Lap Band on TV. I went to the seminar I decided that it could help me. I didn’t want the gastric bypass it was too radical for me. The Lap Band it seemed would be just right for me.

In May 2008 I had my surgery; all was fine until they filled my band. Heartburn it was terrible, took in 2 weeks before I could see the PA. They told me use Tums, well I was eating Tums like candy and it did not help. Came back in 2 more weeks still had very bad heartburn. Some fluid was removed come back next month for a fill. Back again I go heartburn comes back, PA said take Prilosec but only for 2 weeks.
Well it did help until the next fill and back came the heartburn. This went on for 1-year; fill and then unfill the band. I got tired of this did not lose much weight, and then I gave up. Never once did the surgeon see me, only the PA. The many many different PA's.

In July 2012 I found Dr Volkmann and boy did my life change. I weighed 240 pound and drop down to 196. He said let’s put you on omprazole you can take this for as long as needed. He order blood work to be done to see how my body was handling the band, protein, vitamins and lipids ECT… no one had order anything like this before on me. Spoke to the dietician each month, she went over my foods choices and made suggestions.

I’m still having problems with heartburn and lately it has been extremely bad this started in February. In March 2013 I went in I could take the pain any more, I also was tired of sleeping in the chair and not in my bed, the PA ordered an x-ray and sure enough the band had slipped. So now I have an appointment with my surgeon to see what can be done.
