For 2012, unreimbursed medical expenses are deductible on your taxes, but only if the medical expenses exceed 7.5% of your adjusted gross income. For instance.....if your adjusted gross income is $50K, then you could deduct medical expenses over and above $3,750. Given this, if you were out of pocket $6K on the surgery, you could deduct $2,250 of it.

When you figure this out at year end, make sure to pick up all of your copays, prescriptions, eyeglasses, contact lenses.....ALL medical that was not reimbursed by insurance. Your accountant would be the best source to advise on on this overall.

My motto.. Submit it to your accountant and see what happens!

It depends on your income.... I was able to claim mine in 2010 as a medical deduction. Check with your accountant to be sure. Or if you are doing it yourself... Most software will figure out the amount you need to have spent based on income to determine if you can take the deduction.

I have been deducting all of my medical expenses. Follow TurboTax. It walks you thou it. You have to keep track of everything! Don't forget you can even deduct the mileage to drive to each of you appointments, to the pharmacy, parking fees, etc. I even deduct he Vitamins i take now that the doctor has prescribed them! Track it all!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
