Banded yesterday, heating pad ok?

Recommended Posts

So I was banded yesterday, now I'm going through the motions ("HOLY HELL WHAT DID I GET MYSELF INTO?!"). Either my gas pains haven't started yet, or they passed without much complication. My biggest problem is the deep muscle pain. This pain is ridiculous. My pain meds are helping, but only slightly. It's extremely hard to sleep, because I am a tummy sleeper and I just can't get comfortable on my back. Did any of you use a heating pad? I'm just not sure if it is better to use heat or ice.

Congrats on your banding! My heating pad never left me for the first 8 days or so after surgery...every day gets better. Best Wishes :)

Congrats to you....I was given an ice pack..the ice was awesome... I didn't put in on my skin but on my clothes ...My clothes were like a buffer...I was banded 2/18/13...I would guess a heating pad would feel good...at the end of the day, I guess its what u prefer...again congrats.

I used a hot water bottle, so I am sure a heating pad is fine! Congrats and get lots of rest! I am a tummy sleeper too and finally was able to sleep on my tummy comfortably for the first time last night (one week after surgery) it was heaven!! So there is a light at the end of the tunnel, use lots of pillows and it did get easier on my back after a night or two.

Congratulations on taking this step!!! I prefer ice but I am told either is fine, it's what soothes you best.

Congrats! I know how you feel! i was so unhappy my first week (banded 1/30) I was in pain and even cried a few times. It gets better, trust me! I actually was afraid of using a heating pad because I was worried I would melt the Dermabond used to "stitch" me up. Ha ha! That may sound insane, but I knew they kept talking about ice so I stuck with ice. Feel better!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
