Hi- just a quick question for all the veterans. I was banded last Thursday. Since then I have not been hungry at all. My doctor gave me 2 goals for week 1- drink 64oz of Water a day and drink 3 Protein Shakes per day. Other than the Protein, I'm on a completely clear liquid diet.< /p>

My question is that I have had absolutely no trouble drinking tons of water and my Protein shakes. I'm not drinking them because I'm hungry- only to meet my goals. I have read on here that lots of people have trouble keeping these things down in the beginning. Is it also normal to not have trouble?

My other minor worry is that I'm taking in so little calories. I'm guessing this is no big deal though since its just the first week?

What you are experiencing is normal. I was not hungry at all for the first week and when I got turned loose to eat mushy food, 3 bites and I was done. My surgeon had put a small fill in my band at the time of surgery, I could drink fluids with no problem, but had a small amount of restriction from the start. Good luck

You are a lucky one to be able to drink that much from the start. You must have minimal swelling b/c that is usually the problem on our first week.

Don't worry about your calories right now. That will come later.

Just keep doing what your Dr order and try not to worry, which I know thats hard b/c we all did worry in the beginning. We're scared of getting this wrong and failing yet another time.

You're doing great, congratulations and welcome to the banded side!

You really shouldn't do that. You're given a liquid diet for a reason, not for torture. When you put solids in your sutured stomach, the churning of digestion could do some damage.

You need to call your Dr and talk to them about being to hungry on just liquids, maybe they can work something else out for you.

Good luck!

Normal! Same thing happened to me, I wasn't hungry for weeks! But I got dehydrated because I couldn't even get Water down, I just didn't want anything! It will pass once all the swelling goes down. Good luck!

Thanks everyone! I am thankful I'm not hungry yet. I really hope this lasts as long as possible! I feel great already for the simple reason that my body is kind of purified of soda and fried/processed foods I used to eat. I haven't cheated at all and have followed dra order since my preop diet started 3 weeks ago. I'm just so thankful for this new start. I just keep telling myself that this surgery was such a huge undertaking and that I did it to be successful and nothing else.

That is a great attitude! Sounds like you have "want power".

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
