You all are so nice to have especially for someone that knows very little about this process. I had my surgery Monday 2/11 and the past two days I've had some congestion in my throat, almost feels like when I swallow its a little restricted. Is this because of the swelling? I go to my post op Monday but I'm curious because its kind of bothersome. I've finally been able to drink apple juice and Water but not really having an appetite for much else. Should I force myself to drink Protein? Am I causing myself harm by not? Sorry so many questions just not sure what's going on..... Please help!

It could be swelling but after 2 weeks it should be going down. Have you tried warm tea or something warm like that? It may go down a little better. Just make sure you are getting your Protein down. It will all fall into place soon.

Good luck.

If you are exercising by now you might want to add the Protein drinks. Protein is necessary to build and retain muscle mass. Otherwise you will be losing fat, Water and muscle. Protein helps to satiate your appetite for longer periods of time(not your problem, yet).

You should be able to sip Clear liquids with no issues. If you can't, I'd suggest calling today. Otherwise, you've been banded for less than a week, so not being able to drink Protein PROBABLY isn't an issue. My doc had me do Clear Liquids for a week PRE and POST op. While everyone's doc's have different suggestions/requirements, I don't think you're doing any harm by not getting in Protein for a week. JUST KEEP HYDRATED. :)

I was banded the same day as u! I am doing a clear liquid diet this first week as well, I can sip just fine, sometimes I feel like my drinks are to big, but there is definatly a different feeling of what "full" or satisfied is for me and right now it doesn't take a whole lot to do it. Don't worry about protien yet, just worries about staying hydrated is what the Dr told me....hope ur doing okay!

Every dr is different, but mine wanted us to drink 3 Protein Shakes a day and get in 60 grams of Protein. They do have protein Soups, maybe the Soup being hot will go down easier for you. He said the reason you need protein after surgery is to help with the healing process.

It might be swelling. It's only been a week. I was on liquids for a week. I drank warm chicken and beef broth. Warm tea helps too. Any warm liquid will help with the swelling. My band is really tight in the mornings so I have to drink hot tea before I eat even 3 yrs out.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
