Emotional about dr's appt next week and food cravings

Recommended Posts

well I guess I should call it ashamed too since I've only lost 3 lbs in what will be one month next week. I'm not able to exercise and I'm angry about that. I also am feeling an emotional attachment to food here lately, bad foods. I haven't been bad, it's just I have craved old foods like chips and dip, cheeto's, frito's, stuff like that and sweets, it's awful. I'm feeling deprived and its not a good feeling right now. I literally could binge. I guess those feelings of craving old bad food habits never will go away and I have to deal with it for the rest of my life as I want so bad to succeed with my band. I'm 47 and having gone thru a hysterectomy a few yrs ago it threw me into menopause so I know my metabolism is probably slower than someone younger or who is not going thru menopause plus I take hormones. Here lately it seems I can eat a cup worth of food and then some but I don't. I go in next week for a fill, thank goodness. I am staying full every 4 hrs but the urge to snack in between is there, I don't snack often, maybe 2 to 3 times a week once a day and then I will grab a low fat string cheese. My worst time is late night, food calls my name, anything and I'm not hungry for the most part. Now last night I was hungry so I ate 3 bites of turkey and half piece of Munster cheese with it around 11:00 pm. Tonight, I'm not hungry. I just wish I could turn off the food craving button in my head.

3 pounds in less than a month isn't bad. I think you are being to hard on yourself. Sounds like you are just on a plateau. Hang in there and things will turn around for you. :)

Not sure when you were banded, or how much restriction you have, but I assume it was recent and very little in your band.....

Even after I had my first fill, which was 4 cc, I GAINED weight....what did I expect to happen? My band was not yet fully adjusted...

When I saw my Dr., he laughed when I got on the scale...

He referred to the Yellow-Green-Red chart o the wall and said THIS is our goal....to get you to that place....until then, it's all a struggle just as if I was not even banded....

And he was 100% correct.....he did get me to that place on the chart, and since then it has all been EASY ! No more struggles with old fashioned dieting or controlling hunger, just like they advertised.....

A loss is a loss no matter how much it is. Even every ounce is a loss. You have to count your losses as better then gaining. Start being positive and the outcome will be positive.

Have you seen what a pound of actual body fat looks like? I wouldn't be discouraged. You might think 1 or 2 or 3 pounds isn't much, but it really is a big deal. Fat is a big blob of yellow yuck. Google it, you'll see. You just did your body a huge flavour by getting rid of it. I say congrats to all of you, way to go!

B52 I'm 8 mos post op and I'm not quite sure how much I have in my band cause I had an unfill for gallbladder surgery Dec 3rd and right now I'm not quite up to what was in there prior to that surgery. My band surgery was June 13th. No I haven't really sat down and thought of what a pound of fat really looks like but I guess you are right, I did do my body good by losing 3 lbs. I'm just really struggling with cravings with old food habits and old foods that I used to eat and yes they are in the house as I live with my mom and she eats them. Luckily she doesn't have a weight problem.

That's got to be tough having reminders around. Is it anything your mom could keep in her room? Sort of out of sight out of mind. I know that feeling of tasting the food without actually tasting the food. It always tastes better in my head than the actual real taste. Good luck conquering that. If you come up with the solution to craving, please share. You could make a fortune.

Actually over Christmas between my brother and I we gave her lots of her favorite candy so she did keep that in her bedroom and I appreciated it but as far as the chips and things like that go its in the pantry. I actually live with my elderly mom, well she's 74, not that elderly but needs me and I'm divorced now so it helps me out too by living here. But like when she leaves the house and leaves me here all alone I have no accountability for my actions and I like want to scarf down whatever I am forbidden to eat any other time, it's like sinful, I mean down right sinful. The other day I was like a drug addict, she left and I went to the pantry and opened up the bag of cheeto's and ate 5, boy you would have thought I died and had gone to heaven and lord only knows I didn't tell her. She is the food police around here for me and I want her to be, I want to be held accountable, I want to be reminded "Donna, that looks like more than a cup in cases when I didn't measure" kind of deal. Maybe I need to become Catholic and go to confessional instead of being Baptist, lol. It's just that I'm having a hard time with craving old foods like Pasta, rice, soda, Subway, things I no longer eat or drink and can't and am having a hard time with it right now and I don't know why. I've been emotional about all week long. It's almost like I'm mourning these types of foods and the attachment I have with them. Sheesh.

Donna, I haven't been banded as long as you, but I do understand what you are going through. Eating was such an integral part of my being that I am struggling with filling the void that is there.

Donna, check out www.shrinkyourself.com. It's an awesome plan and will teach you all about why you eat emotionally and how to stop. It's a paid program. Kind of like an online course you do for 12 weeks. I learned so much from it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
