Small fills

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery July 2012 and so far I have lost 25 pounds my doctor has been giving me several small fills mainly .25 cc at a time. I think he could be more aggressive with my fills but he keeps telling he dont want to get me to tight. I feel im doing most of the work on my own with only 3.5cc on my band out of a 10cc band I'm always fighting hunger. I excersice 5 times a week and I just wish I could lose weight a little faster most people can't even tell I lost any weight.... Im tired of being fat and hungry. Has anyone out there experience slow weight lost and finally lost the weight?? How long can this take??

you do not have enough in your band most of us have our band just over half full and find it very comfortable to maintain..I have a 10cc/6.5cc in it for the last few mons and I am down 57lbs in 6 mos I am so pleased with my band. I am never hungry and food doesn't call me any more I find it easy to say no or take a very small taste of something I plan. You should not be hungry at this point. He works for you and tell him you want 1 cc fills till you aren't hungry for 4-5- hours on one cup of food that is what the bsand is built for..if not change doctors.

My dr. gave me small fills. One month I even had to skip because he didnt have an appointment for me. I understand your fustration, because people who know are usually negative and when they dont see weight loss, there like. Told ya so. On my 6 month check up he gave me a big fill, and then I had to cancell my next appointment because I didnt need it. Hang in there you will get there. And then you will start dropping weight at a good pace if you do what your supposed to. :)

My doctor is the same way- they feel that it is better to give small fills every 5 to 6 weeks then over fill and have you be to tight. I am a year out as of today and only have 3.7 in a 10cc band. It has been a very long and frustrating year as I just thought I would be further along in weight loss by now. So I completely understand an cant wait to find the green zone.

Thanks for all your answers and yes im very fustruated specially when friends and family know you have the band and they make little remarks like "maybe you not trying hard enough" and im like really that's the reason I got WLS because I couldnt do it on my own

I'm so happy there's a thread like this one! I was banded aug 20 and didn't get my first fill until oct 29 due to port revision. Since then I have 8cc in an 11 cc band and have only lost 20lbs. I workout 4-5 times a week and track everything I sat. I am a small loser for sure. Doc says it has nothing to do with the volume as well as it take a little longer with a realize band to get to your sweet spot! So in goin with the flow and praying the numbers start moving!

Good luck everyone

Yeh I've have my band 10 mos and just now got a fill , I've got 3cc now ,came home and ate I was starving , my doc is slow also and he doesn't like doing fills , the head nurse said that i shouldn't need fills that I should be able to lose the Wieght on my own , then I said what the use of the band ? Just hang around ? The doc said will it might of losing up some sense the operation and that's when he dicided to add some , thank god! Cause I've already gain 9 lbs back , so right now I'm grateful that I got 3 cc in 10 mos . And I was told not to expect more from the head nurse ,she doesn't like me at all

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
