Anyone starting to lose it when looking at Soup? I need some food ideas for full liquids phase! Cream of Wheat is not working for me - diarrhea every time. lunch I'm eating Greek yogurt (added some honey because its nasty on its own) and dinner is Soup. Looks like Protein Shake is it for Breakfast. Any other ideas as I'm getting the Protein in by adding powder but barely breaking 500 calories a day.

Just wondering how all our post-op Bandsters are doing. I'm up and about pretty well, but STILL having shoulder and back pain. It's hard to get in all my fluids and calories, since I have absolutely no desire to put anything in my mouth. The scale, BTW, still shows 2 pounds more than my pre-op weight.

I went to mushies yesterday because 1) I got crazy dizzy again at the supermarket, and 2) I cannot stand another minute of Protein Shakes or broth. I have been taking Aleve for my lingering pain and have had no restriction issues (I'm empty, but it means I'm not swollen). My hunger's been through the roof too, and my calories are starvation-y.

I had 1 scrambled egg with a tiny bit of cheddar on it at breakfast, a Protein Shake for lunch, and 1/2 cup of pureed chicken salad for dinner. I felt much better.

I'm not advocating anyone else doing this...Just sharing my experience. I track all calories and Protein, I was under 1100 yesterday.

I'm still getting full on barely anything. I'll *think* I'm hungry so I grab a SF Jello, but I can barely finish it, and i'm full on about a half cup of broth. I thought by now I'd be STARVING on liquids. I must still be swollen in there. I track all my calories and Protein too and I'm barely making 400 calories, and most days it's even less than that. I'm not getting nearly enough protein either. I can not look at another greek yogurt either! I loved it, now not so much!

MandaMom.... try Isopure Oarnge banana drinks... they do NOT taste that good but they are Clear Liquids and you can get them at GNC... 40grams of Protein and 140 calories.

I keep meaning to ask you ladies... do any of you still have a REALLY inflated stomach? I mean clearly we didn't have this surgery because we had washboard abs. but since the surgery it seems like the gas is still in my stomach. It is a bit smaller in the morning but by mid day I look 5 months pregnant? - anyone else having this issue?

I'm still walking a lot to try and get it down.

YES!! I do still have an inflated stomach, and for me it's pretty bad at night. Uncomfortable too. Does anyone else have a hard time burping? I think I've seen that's pretty common, but it's so weird to feel it built up in there and not be able to get it out!

My surgery was Monday and I still have a very bloated belly. I still have pain in my shoulder and back. I'm looking more like 7 months pregant.

Glad to hear I'm not alone. I'm also bloated and have a hard time, sometimes painful, burping.

Hi All -

I am still bloated in the stomach too. I am on the pureed food stage of my doctor's diet so I am in heaven!! I made turkey chili and put it in the blender (still good), taco meat, applesauce, yogurt, guacamole (Avacado, onions, salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, lime juice and dash of FF italian dressing - SO GOOD), etc. I have also been having some V8 fusion Light diluted with 50% Water. This stage has been good!

I can't believe the differences in diets Dr. To Dr! I am so jealous of Danielle's dinner! I am doing Soup only for dinner - cream of mushroom (strained) with Protein Powder. It was better than Tomato Soup but that's not saying a lot ... I feel my Dr. Would be upset with me if I was non-compliant so I've followed his directions - although another week makes me worried.

Lost 11 lbs this week which was somewhat shocking but welcome. I didn't have a pre-op diet so I guess I'm feeling the frustration now!

Hope you all have a good weekend-my 1st social situation tomorrow night so I'm a bit nervous...

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
