3 Days post op in PAIN!

Recommended Posts

I am in the same boat as most of you' date=' having surgery the same day as Mimi. I used the MOM and had diarhea afterwards, but still a lot of gas pains 5 days out. I am walking quite a bit and taking the gas x, but still feel pressure around my chest and left shoulder. I didn't take any pain meds yesterday until I went to bed. the pressure on my chest is the most annoying and wish it would go away. When I walk it sometimes makes me feel a little out of breath. Should I take some more MOM?[/quote']

Chrissy, try doing breathing exercises. I haven't taken any more MOM and I'm still feeling okay. I still have the pressure, but deep breathing helps with that. Sip on hot liquids and breath in deeply, hold it for a few secs then release slowly. That's what's helping me with the pressure and "spasms" and walking, lots of walking.

Feel better!

Hi' date=' I'm 3 days post op (I also had a hiatal hernia repair) and I'm in excruciating pain on my left side. i also have a lot of gas. I get up and walk around my building every few hours even in the middle of the night. I can't sleep through the night. I have been taking my pain pills, however they only succeeding knocking me out or numbing my senses for a few hours.

I called my surgeon's office and they said it's gas which should lessen once I have a bm. Per their instructions, I have been sipping watered down prune juice to try to force a bm and I have been using Gas-X chewables and strips, drinking hot chamomile tea regularly and my heat pad is on my stomach around the clock except when I'm up walking. I also have a Snoggle full body pillow for sleeping.

What am I doing wrong? Has anyone else experienced this much pain a few days out? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.[/quote']

Try this tea called Smooth Move, or any tea with senna. It helps more then anything I've ever tried.

Mimi, did you have diarhea? I will take your suggestions and start doing them now. I burp a lot and that does help.

Thanks! I have a tea similar to that called Ballerina Tea, it also has senna. If I get backed up again and the milk of magnesia doesn't work, I'll definitely try that. :)

My bms aren't solid, but I wouldn't call it diarrhea because I went once last night and once this morning (without taking more MOM). I think the watery consistency is due to being on Clear Liquids. It might get better once we go on full liquids. When does that phase start for you? I can't wait to have Greek yogurt and cream of wheat tomorrow!

Mimi I start my soft phase tomorrow. I'm thinking tuna fish for a few days cause I still don't have an appetite.

Have you been going #2 regularly? If yea then don't take more MOM. But if no then it couldn't hurt I don't think. The dose on the bottle says 2-3 tablespoons but my doctor said just take 1 tbsp.

how are y'all feeling today? This is my 4th day post op and I had high hopes of getting up this morning and feeling great and making it to church. Instead, I slept in till after 10. Woke up with my body hurting from soreness and mild midsection pain. Didnt feel good enough to go to church. I took some pain medicine last night at like 10 and haven't had any today. I'm jonesing for it though so not a good sign. Trying to take it slow. I feel like I need a chiropractor. Anyone else feeling that way? I want to get a massage but not sure if I should wait till I heal more.

I'm feeling much better, but still tight. I'm still taking the pain meds. I hope to switch to liquid Tylenol tomorrow and hopefully that works out. I'd be scared to get a massage so soon. I normally sleep on my stomach and I'm scared to death that I may roll over accidentally so I sleep with tons of pillows around me in addition to my Snoggle full body pillow. Maybe you can get a Chinese massage just on your shoulders while sitting up in a chair?

I'm 4 days post and had lots of pain on my left side port side from trying to get up off of the couch myself. I now have my parents help me up and I'm drinking tea. Also with the gas my family has been massaging my back while I sit up in a chair which helps alleviate the gas pains in my back on the left side.

My doctor had me take milk of mag and it helped me a lot. I actually didn't have a lot of gas pain. My pain was pretty bad but it was from the port. None of my other incisions hurt at all either.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
