So frustrating! I am down 88lbs and I am lucky if maybe 2 people (outside of my immediate circle) have said anything to me about it! I'm not all about the praise and how good I look. If they would just acknowledge I look different that would mean the world to me! I've worked hard for those 88lbs darnit! =)

It's nice to have someone notice, but compliments are sometimes hard to take. It's like, oh no someone is looking at me. Now that I've been here awhile, it's getting better because everyone and me is getting used to the new me.

I had a love hate relationship with compliments ( if that makes sense)

Have you noticed your loss? Do you look in the mirror and see a smaller you?

When I started seeing a smaller me, I started walking a little taller. I started having more confidence and that is when others started to notice.

That happened around 50 lbs. That was also when I started buying clothes that fit, that complimented me (not hide me).

Changing my feelings about myself was my turning point and people noticed.

Ajtexas, you made a very interesting point!

What I've noticed is my clothes are baggy. I've changed my wardrobe to accommodate this. But, what I haven't noticed, is a smaller me yet. I still see the weight, the rolls, the blubber, the yuckie me.

Maybe what I was looking for was someone to constantly say how great I'm doing, as a booster to what I'm doing. When in fact, I should be telling myself this. I guess I don't need anyone else's opinion but my own.

Any compliments I do receive, are bonuses!

I'm going to try to view this differently now! Thanks so much Ajtexas! You really helped me see a different angle!

And thanks everyone too, all your replies are much appreciated. They also have helped. :)

I'm really glad you started this topic, because I'm dealing with a lot of insecurity and disappointment about my recent weight loss, which nobody has noticed. My fiance, when asked, admitted he couldn't see a difference now that I'm 20 lbs down during my preop diet. I just feel so discouraged, especially because I can't really tell either. I'm glad to hear that after another 10-20 lbs I might get a little acknowledgment and encouragement from close family/friends. I have a long way to go, though.

Lapbandit - I've only lost 30 so far, wait until your oats get baggy. Someone stated earlier, when you are wearing your regular clothes, which might be baggy, people can't see your loss until you are wearing something different.

I think the other day at work, some people might have noticed, and they didn't say anything. But, I'm not going to let that get me down. I know I am able to fit in the next size smaller, and without lying down to zip em. And I couldn't do that 2 weeks ago!

Congrats on your weight loss. Losing weight is not an easy task, it's a constant struggle. We took this step to get there. I know I'm not going back to a larger size. I packed up all my stuff that is too big, to make sure I don't slide backwards.

Keep up on your good work!

Had to comment about "oats". wondered if that was a nickname you had for something!!! True tho, wait until your jeans bag off you, then change to the size that fits, you will surprise yourself, too! Karen

My first 80 not many people noticed or did not say anything as in the past 8 years this is the figure I yo yo with the next 30 pounds made i huge difference to me. I saw my shape change and also had no more clothes to shrink into. But the next 50 saw lots of changes old friends walk past me. My son called me skinny. My knees don't hurt. I love shopping bargains or previously enjoyed in the goodwill shops.

congrats on your weight loss!

nobody apart from my hubby knows I've got a band. no one at work had said anything about my weight loss. I think that they are so used to me losing weight then putting it back on again that they dare not comment!!

I've been saying like 'oh I don't half feel the cold since I lost some weight' then they'll say ' yeah you can see it in your face and everywhere' which is nice. But I bet they are expecting me to put it all back on again. Well, not this time!! I also believe that some people would like you stay fat so that your the 'fat friend' that makes them look better!

Well, i WONT be your 'fat friend' anymore! ha ha that's it, rant over!! x

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
