Will Er Know How To Take Fluid Out?

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I went and had a fill. I have had 7 ccs for about 1 1/2 years. He gave me 2 ccs. Afterwards I was able to drink the Water after the appointment and some for bout an hour after that. When I got home I made a Protein Shake and could not keep that down and have not been able to keep water down since. I am getting worried. I have never had this happen with a fill. So here I am and it is the weekend and I know I need to get water in and I am not sure if it would be wise to wait until Monday.

Definately all Ers do not know how to unfill. The best would be for you to call your doctor. They might have someone on call that can meet you there.

Have you tried sucking on Gatorade ice chips or regular ice chips?

My doctor will come in on the weekend for emergencies like that. A lot of ER do not know how to take Fluid out the proper way.

I don't trust anyone but a lap band doctor to touch my band...

Does your lap band doctor work out of a hospital. If so I would call the emergency room tell them what your problem is and ask if there's someone on staff who can do emergency unfill. I would definitely drive the extra 30 minutes to the lapband hospital that I used verses closer hospitals that don't have a lap band surgeon. My hospital is also a teaching hospital so it's possible someone who had a rotation in the weight loss surgery department would be available.

Agree with all the posts above. Don't wait most docs have emergency pagers.

I did call and they said to go to the ER. Yes it is the ER that he works out of and there was some doctors there that worked with him. It took them sticking me 20 to 30 times before they finally got 2 ccs out. Apparently I have a large amount of scar tissue that is hard to get around. I am so grateful that I can drink again. food does ok too. But now I am pretty depressed because I am back to 7 ccs. I guess if I go back, I will have him put in 1/2 cc at a time. I am quite disappointed with my surgeon right now. I am about 20 lbs heavier then I was the last time I had 9 ccs. I am confused why he went and put 2 in after not having any for 18 months. Thanks for all your replies. I was so upset at the ER, I was crying most of the time. If they were not able to get to the port, they said they were going to admit me untill someone could get the saline out, I guess so I did not dehydrate. Just feeling quite upset right now, and pretty fed up with my band. :(

In my experience you can have a fill than an unfill and you may not need as much.

It sounds like you had a horrible & traumatic experience! I always had problems like you are describing - keeping down Water in the office but then even tho I was on liquids- tightening up & not being able to keep down water! It's sooo frustrating! Try scheduling your fill early in the week, then if there's an issue, your dr will be in the office. Also try 1 cc at a time. Good luck -hope you feel better! :-)

Agreed. I am also very sensitive to fills. The smaller, the safer for me.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
