Day 10:

Things were pretty tough today. I had two christmas parties today, one for lunch and one for dinner. I am still on liquids until Friday so at one of my favorite restaurants, I ordered Soup. I only ate half of it and took the rest home. I barely heard any of the conversations that were going on between the 16 people that were there. All I could think of was wanting the 14 different appetizers they ordered, having a coke, eating a big burger or shrimp fetticini and then the unbelieveable Desserts. This was pure torture. In the past when I was "dieting" I would have caved, hence the reason I had to have banding performed.

I made it through that lunch, but then I was getting ready for my evening party and I was like whooaaa this is just to much to go through again, 10 days out, 2x in one day! So I called and canceled!

I am having extreme head hunger right now, but FORTUNALTELY I can't have anything but liquids. I have so many more parties to go to by the end of the year and frankly, I am scared about it. ):

Anyone else experiencing this? Gosh, I want some pizza right now. Luckily I am scared to death of getting stuck or I would order one. This site has petrified me of eating pizzza and bread! The entire lunch in my head I was obsessing over everyones food wanting it.....will this end?

IP9 ;) Happy Holidays too!

Bless your heart! I know its tough but for the sake of healing you may have to weed out the gatherings. Remember its not so much that you are not obeying the post op diet if you happen to cave in. It's the damage that can be done during your healing time. Your band is sutured to you and there is scar tissue. This area needs to heal and not be obstructed by any vomiting or heavy digesting that your system just isn't ready for. This could create long term damage. Be strong you can get through it and its ok to decline the invite. This is for you! It's your time!

Mmm pizza lol. It's not just parties for me, it's walking into a grocery store or watching tv. I find myself complaining about all the darn food commercials!. I will probably try to avoid ALOT of social gatherings. I will goto important ones and work my way through it. I'm like you now and scared to even cheat (I'm 5 days out and also on liquids) which helps oddly enough. I'll sacrifice a holiday or 2 to relearn how to eat and next year I'll be able to eat in moderation some of those I had to pass this time around. You made the big decision to get the band, I know you can conquer a few measly meals :-) ! You got this! Good luck!

I totally understand! I'm 7 days out and I can't stand when others eat around me! And the term you used, head hunger, is exactly what it is bc I am not physically hungry. I'm happy I am loosing weight but yes I miss eating. I have a big Irish/Italian family all these people want to do is eat! Sometimes I think I should live alone for a few weeks until I "kick" my addiction. But it gets better. I've had other family members go through it and they survived so we will too! Best of luck to you :-)

I am a part of a WLS study and the first day if my liquid diet was Boss' day at my job where I had to sit with my co-workers for Breakfast and lunch and while they all eat I drank two Protein Shakes. I think that has been the hardest day in my journey. I have not been banded yet so I don't know exactly how you feel (yet) but I am keeping positive that it gets easier with time. Hang in there.

I am getting banded on the 19th. I feel the same way. Excited yet nervous about this major lifestyle change. That's one thing I am living about this forum. We all understand.

Hope the holiday parties and the stress of them get easier.

My date was close enough to xmas that I just bowed out of gatherings except with family on the 24th and 25th.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
