So I'm 12 days post op and I accidentally used a straw tonight. I just forgot. Is it a huge deal? What is the reasoning behind it anyway?

I think it just gets you too much air while you drink.

From what I read it is becaue you get to much air that will cause gas and you will drink faster bigger sips. There was another reason that I did read but I dont remember what it was.

My dr says it's because you can pull up extra air behind the liquid. He also says that it varies from person to person, so he doesn't have a hard rule on it. I use straws and don't seem to have a problem, but I know some people do. However, I wasn't brave enough to try straws right away as I didn't want any more discomfort than I was already experiencing after surgery.

I use a straw and I chew gum...I guess I'm a rebel! My Dr. said 2 weeks no straw, but never said anything about gum. Of course, I don't swallow it. :o

I chew a pack of gum a day :) no issues and my doc says as long as I don't swallow it I'm good to go. Straws he says most stay away from bc like the others have said too much air. I'm almost a week post op and just now getting comfy so I won't be trying straws anytime soon if ever!

Thank goodness about the gum! I've been wondering and I've been without for 3 weeks... I also chew one pack a day!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
