Pre-Op Diet

Recommended Posts

Did anyone cheat in their pre-op diet? I'm on day 6 and it is so hard. This is my second time doing pre-op diet because I got sinus infection and Bronchitus during my first pre-op, so I had to re-schedule my surgery. I have nothing but headaches :(. They have me on 2 Protein Shakes and 1 meal a day.

wow,i consder you lucky...why?

because i had 14 days of only liquids. i couldnt eat a meal like you.

if you want this surgery, dont cheat. you will only be cheating yourself

i am so proud to say i did not cheat. it doesnt make me better but showed myself

that i was capable of doing this and being a success with weight loss.

hang in there. again, if you want to have this surgery, go about it the right

way from the beginning.

I have been on liquids for almost 5 weeks for the removal of the band and now have 3 more weeks it takes alot to stay with it but look for your goal if the pre diet is hard then the months after will be harder because after u cant cheat cause after your band is adjusted you will not be able to physical to eat those things. so just make sure you are ready for the change. I had my band for almost 3 years and 10 pounds from goal and had all my skin removed and then lost my band due to complication and had a bypass the band is a tool and it will take a lot of work and comentment on your part

Wow, sorry for your problems! Wishing the best to you.

You're absolutely right about cheating pre op and not post op.

Good luck!

No, I did not cheat on my pre op or my post op diet...and all totaled that amounted to 4 entire weeks of liquids only, with the exception of pre op I was allowed to have 1 cup of raw salad veggies every day. Those veggies tasted wonderful...

Cheating on your diet will harm only you...and this is the time to hone your skills for diet compliance and stay in touch with the reasons you have opted for band surgery. If you cheat now, you set a dangerous precedent for future diet challenges post op, because once you give yourself permission to cheat the first time, you will discover that it becomes increasingly easier to grant that permission to cheat in the future. And the success for your weight loss is directly related to your diet compliance.

This is the most challenging time to stay compliant with your diet...it helps to keep your "eye on the prize" of weight loss and a healthier you. You can do this if you want it bad enough!

Best wishes...

I am so glad that my doctor just put me on a sugar buster diet instead of these diets i have been reading about. i couldnt see just liquids for 14 days to specific diets. though i have to say not having even a lil bit of sweets like it seems my kids have. so many props to all of you that go through these other special diets that isnt a surgar buster diet. i think i would be dying right now. good luck to all fo you

you wouldnt be (dying) that is your mental thinking. if you wanted this surgery (you would do what you had to do) in order to get it. you are very much stronger than you know :)

have a great day

Hello Folks!

Starting my pre-op diet today! I've read so many post over the past few months. Nothing can compare to staring down the pre-op Optifast yourself though. I'm on Optifast and have 1 Protein Bar, 4 "shakes" 1 Soup (Optifast soup of course) a day. I'm allowed up to 3 sugar free Jello and 3 sugar free popsicles a day. Sugar free drinks are ok too, but Water is encouraged. I'm really hoping this is a kick starter for me. I can totally see how if you can't handle a couple weeks of this the lapband will definitely be more of a challenge than it already will be.

I had so many questions for my doctor and the nutritionist I'm required to see about why Optifast. Essentially according to the office I'm working with Optifast will deliver enought Protein and other essentials and help me lose some weight before surgery and shrink my liver. Both of which are said to make the healing and surgery go much better.

I'm not expecting it to be a walk in the park, but last night after walking up stairs and was so out of breath I couldn't imagine not doing this. Will it be stinky for a couple of weeks? Likley, but it's for a much greater purpose. I can't imagine any food out there that are more important than me being around for a longer and healthier life.

I hope I'm feeling as strong about it by my surgery date, October 9!

Thanks! :D

I did 2 weeks of optifast with 4 shakes a day, 1 fruit and 1 veggie. I could have popsicle and Jello (sf), but they did not want me to have those daily.......more like a treat. Day 1-3 were terrible, but once I figured out that the key was blending them with lots of ice and using a straw to drink, they were fine. I wasn't hungry and about half the time I couldn't get all 4 in. Last one of the day was usually a half a one. chocolate is way better than vanilla, but for the vanilla I added Decaf instant coffee and Walden Farms chocolate sauce (no calories, fat, carbs etc).

I went from gagging them down on day 1 to ordering 2 more boxes post op, because I was having a hard time finding protein that I could handle. Love the chocolate ones now.

You will do just fine.............good luck.

I cheated. I supplemented chicken, eggs, and veggies. My liver was fine. It's your body. Don't let anyone make you feel sad about your decisions. Good luck! You will be so happy when you get the weight off!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
