Does anyone Chew and spit just to get the mental out of the way?

Recommended Posts

The only time I've done this is with meat, usually beef (especially steak) that I chew and chew and chew but can't quite get the gristle (sp?) to the consistency I feel safe with. I'm so afraid to swallow it, that I spit it out. It's not because I set out to chew to get the flavor and spit it out. I set out to eat it, but even after my selective cutting on the plate and then methodical chewing I fear swallowing gristle (you know that really tough fatty stuff that can be stringy). Deep inside my head, I am convinced it will get stuck.

This is rare and again, usually only happens with steak like sirloin.

Guilty!! Especially when I was first banded, I noticed when I would cook I’d graze on what I was cooking then say to myself “what the F are you doing” and spit it out.

I’ve done the sausage thing as well…just to suck the juices.

Like Jack and Morsaille, I'll spit it out if it's risky.

I've also had a couple of instances where I've popped a certain food in my mouth, like a spanish olive, and found that I couldn't stand the taste of it now so I spit it out. Odd how the tastes change.

I know the question is - do you try to get your no-no foods by chewing and spitting. For me, the answer is no. If you are sucking the sugars and fats from the thing you are chewing and then spitting out the rest, what have you accomplished? The calories are in the sugars and fats. You silly people. *giggles*

OMG Kathy! I'm glad you did that first! LOL I've been fighting so hard to restrain myself! LOL

I don't swallow, I spit. ROFL

When I saw chew and spit I immediately thought of my Dad who passed away at the age of 100. He chewed and spit tobacco all his life (from the time he was 9, would you believe that)? It is completely off topic, but just brought back some wonderful memories of Dad who constantly was drooling tobacco juice on his clothes in later years.:spider: :D and back to a serious topic.

i have found chewing gum really helps with this as well as far as chewing and oral fixation.

Yep!

I've done that, more when on Pre- diet though. I don't do that when I can avoid it though, I will usually swallow also! :D So why bother, I am better off not even putting it in my mouth to start with. Willpower is not one of my strong suits.

I have not done this. Yet. Thanks guys. (just kidding  )

I think it would be hard for me to not swallow whatever it is I shouldn't have taken a bite of. I do agree with LilAngel, swallowing the food seems to be the greater part of it's satisfaction - certainly at least equal to it's taste. Hmmmmm. :D

Really thinking about each step of eating something I know I shouldn't - biting into it, feeling it's texture, chewing, tasting its flavor, swallowing - actually seems to keep me from missing the food too much. Weird. You'd think the opposite would be true.

Every day, in every way . . . I realize that I am really screwed up about food!

I haven't tried steak yet but I can see that this would be a useful technique. I'm sure I may do it on purpose just to taste the steak but don't want it stuck.

I think I'll refrain if I'm at Ruth Chris's Steakhouse... since it's so tender I doubt spitting would be reqired and I wouldn't want to get kicked out.

BTW - did you all see the Sex in the City episode where Carrie went to LA and her old friend who used to be fat was spitting out his perfectly good steak. It was so funny... she dumped him as a friend because no "Well respected New Yorker would spit out steak"

Have I done it... YUP! Made the most awesome steak on the grill for DH. It made my mouth Water. I knew I couldn't swallow it. I cut a piece, chewed it... got the flavor.... spit it out.

IT WAS AWESOME! I got rid of the craving and that was the end of it.

Yes, I will take the calories and the fat.... Just wanted that taste. Everything in moderation. If I was doing it everyday, problem. Once in awhile to get past a craving.... no problem.

THIS IS MY OPINION FOR MY WEIGHT LOSS ... NOT MEANT FOR EVERYONE lol

OFF TOPIC - SORRY

Love Sex and the City! I think it was Miranda's friend who was the steak spitter! I think I could've handled the steak spitting but the pissy, freaked out attitude when she asked about it would have been a deal-breaker for me.

WE NOW RETURN YOU TO YOUR PREVIOUSLY SCHEDULED TOPIC

my doctor told me to do this....lol i was thinking man that's weird why would i waste or better yet spend my money on something that i'm not actually gonna get to eat....i tried it once or twice then i thought it was crazy & my doctor was to...lol so i'm like karenj....if im gonna cheat i'm going to cheat all the way or atleast try.....lol but i've gotten out of the habit of cheating.....

however back to the matter-at hand...my doctor said this was very normal if i was wanting something i knew i couldn't have or wouldn't agree with my band just take a bite chew & spit it out then that craving is suppose to be gone...PSH lol that never worked for me anyway i just wanted the rest of it...or actually wanted it to hit my stomach

I did it just last week. I had been waaaay too tight for about a week and had not eaten any solid food. My daughter had made brownies and I was sooo hungry so I ate a WHOLE brownie (spitting out every bite). I thought it would be more satisfying than it really was.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
