The Preop diet is supposed to shrink your liver to make surgery safer but every doctor is different and there are so many variations and opinions about the pre op diet. All I know is it sucks lol

yankee_girl, While it is not the norm that your dr. dosen't have you on a pre op diet, it's not totally unheard of. My girlfriend didn't have to do the pre op diet because her dr. said her BMI didn't warrent one. Maybe your dr. examined you and felt your liver and didn't feel like it needed any shrinking? Or maybe your dr. just isn't worried about it.

The main reason a dr. puts you on a low fat, low carb diet is to shrink your liver so they can esaily get it out of the way so they can get to your stomach easy. Usually people with a higher BMI have an larger liver. The liver size is greatly reduced by the pre op diet.

If your concerned, give your dr. office a call on Tuesday and ask about it. I'm sure it will be fine, but I would check for my own peace of mind. :)

I'm scheduled for Sept 10th Lap band over bypass. I am on day 6 of the Pre-Op diet and today was the first day that I DID NOT enjoy it! I was doing great all week but today was a long day and I was so ancy. I think pre-surgery nerves and lack of calories are getting to me! I'm determined to hang in there but it's definitely challenging!

Ok I get why they do it now. Maybe they don't feel I need to have it done because my iver isn't in the way. All of my organs have shifted a little due to having a kidney removed. Thanks for explaining why they do the pre-op diet. I was thinking it was to get you used to being on liquids lol.

I'm at almost 24 hours post op. still struggling a bit with port pain and nausea. But overall I feel great. My nurse says he thinks I doing tremendously better than the average lap band patient. I guess going to pee without a bunch if assistance makes me s star patient.

Swallow study in a couple of hours. Then home!!!!

Got my band yesterday morning. Was home in my bed at 4pm.. However I had a rough night with pain and nausea. The pain meds are making me sick to my stomach so I opted not to take them at all and deal with the pain. The gas is annoying and I think that is what is causing most of my pain.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
