Fish-oil supplements for LapBanders?

Recommended Posts

Hi... I am trying to up my HDL levels and am taking fish oil pills.

My concern is tha I am taking the normal pills right now with 1.8cc in my band. I am supposed to get a fill soon and am wondering if anyone found a small fish oil pill somewhere?

I have only ever seen the huge ones, and I know the oil is foul smelling, but... If you pierce it and squirt it into something already fishy, like maybe some tuna, it might not be completely repulsive. You could add relish, onion powder, lemon juice...

I can't take those pills, because I can't stand the after taste. Once they dissolve OMG, that nasty fishy taste just keeps coming back. It's supposed to be healthy, so if you find a replacement, let me know.

Good question, I was wonderig the same thing. They also help with inflammation in the body, so people with Fibromyalgia, arthritis and other auto immune diseases benifit from them. I don't know how to get them in though, because they are huge. Perhaps there is a subsitute oil, like promrose or something that would give the same benefits?

Does flax oil have the same benefits? I'm thinking that I read somewhere it did, and you can buy it in bottles. I can't stand fish, so flax would have to taste better than fish oil, I would think. I'll try to do some research and see if I can find anything and then post again.

It the fish oil in capsule form? I soak my capsule in Water for a couple of minutes until the gel starts to wrinkle, then swallow it. It goes down no problem. I do not yet have a fill though. That might change everything. Dr. Rumbaut says to take pills on an empty stomach and then eat. The food will push the pills through. At least that's what he tells me.

Anyone else got a take on this?

I poke a hole in the flax seed oil tablet and squirt it in a smoothie, can't taste it. I suppose I could do the same with the fish oil, but the after taste would still be nasty.

Hi,

I use liquid flax oil every day in my protien shakes. Once mixed in, I cannot detect any flavor except that it makes the shake more rich tasting. I try to get in two tablespoons a day and make sure to count the calories. You can get liquid flax oil at any health food store, just make sure it has been refrigerated and keep it refrigerated when you get it home. Udo's is the best in my opinion.

My daughter takes liquid fish oil daily - but its a special children's formula that's lemon/lime flavoured so you don't taste the fish. She's picky but it doesn't bother her. I'll check out the name of it when I get home, as I can't remember...

Both flax and fish have a lot of Omega 3 fatty acids that have many positive effects on the body due to their antii-nflammatory effects. They also help with brain function since Omega 3's are concentrated there. The best flax oil I know of is Barleans. You can read lots on flax at www.barleans.com. They even have info on weight loss and flax oil. It comes in capsules or liquid. They also have a fish oil in liquid. I bought one today that is lemon/lime flavored, so pray that I can take it ok! And my kiddos too!

I take the flax that is unfiltered (has lignans in it) because lignans help prevent breast and colon cancer and supress tumor growth.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
