I Am Loving My Lap Band!

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else absolutely love their Lap Band?

I was banded on July 27th. Very new, I know. I feel great. Almost completely back to normal. First 3 days, mostly laid around and slept. Then started getting energy back. I started on my pureed food, last Thursday. I'm up to about half a cup of food per meal. A little less sometimes. I eat slow and try to pay attention to how my stomache is feeling. After eating, WOW, I have no appetite , whatsoever, until my next meal. I'm eating 3 meals a day. No Snacks. I still have Protein drink for Breakfast and then two pureed meals. Incredible! I think for the first time in my life, I am lasting until my next meal with no thought about food or being hungry or having any cravings. I'm sitting at night, watching tv, reading, using computer, whatever, no snacking whatsoever. And I don't feel like I could snack if I wanted to. I am very satisfied with my small meals and the thought of eating more food does not interest me in the least. I am praying that this will last. I keep expecting to wake up ravenous. I'm praying that I don't. I have had no nausea or vomiting episodes at all. I can drink Water freely, with no problem. My food goes down good, I just need a small amount. Twice, I probably overdid it by maybe one or two bites and had an uncomfortably full feeling. Not pain. Just like I had overeaten. I'm trying to really learn that first feeling of when I have had just enough. I have never eaten more than half a cup at one meal.

I have lost 19 lbs. in 3 weeks. That is my two weeks of pre op Protein and one week and 2 days of being banded.

What has everyone else's experience been like this early into it. I'm thinking this is really going to work for me.!!!! Yea!

Congratulations, you are doing really well. I don't want to put a downer on your enthusiasm and success, but just be aware that for most people, weight loss slows as you move onto solids. In fact, some people even gain in that period until they have enough fills to achieve restriction.

good luck!

sounds like you are doing great and on the right track! keep that enthusiasm and positive mindset!!!

like the other said, sometimes it slows a bit when you start solids... BUT dont let them unmotivate you! your POSITIVE ATTITUDE is what is going to make you a success!!!

Well, I'm still on soft foods. Today for breakfast, I had a cup of Liquid Protein drink and half a small banana. For lunch, I had a half cup of cottage cheese, a tablespoon of gucamole, I small peach chopped. For dinner I had egg salad made with two eggs and a tablespoon of mayo, half a cup of sweet potatoe and a small dollop of yogurt. This evening I had the rest of my Protein Drink that I had left from breakfast. I'm not really counting calories. I'm having 3 small meals a day and one or two scoops of Protein made into a drink. I just make it with Water some coco powder and one splenda.

My doctor told me if I eat in this manner. I will not need to count calories. I know some of the people here don't agree with this approach but I can't imagine counting calories for the rest of my life. I'm trying to manage with Portion Control and common sense. I know I need to stick to basic wholesome and nutritious food. I don't expect to eat fried foods, pastries, and high fat foods. Although I don't think anyone can live without an occasional treat. Like my Doc said. I'll still attend parties and have a piece of cake. It will be a small serving or a few bites and I'll be satisfied. I will no longer feel the need to have several pieces. This makes sense to me and the way I'm feeling now. I think it will be very achievable.

I am also still really early on, just got my first fill. I have to say I remmber that feeling of not even thinking about food lasting for a while then fading. Then I got my fill and it reminds me alot of that same feeling, I have a love/ hate relationship. It's hard when your best friend is taken away! But I mostly love it because of my best friend being taken away it means more healthy, entergetic days I get to spend with my family!! And I love your positive attitude!!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
