It may have been too dry for you...it would help if you mashed it and added some broth for moisture. Small bites and chewing every bite to paste helps to avoid stuck episodes.

Be careful with the carbs you choose. White potatoes, like other "white" foods are lacking in nutrition value and their carbs are quickly converted to sugar by the body.

I am tired of potatoes getting a bad rap. They are not empty, they are really nutritious.

Check what is in them

ttp://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/vegetables-and-vegetable-products/2770/2

One of the most important minerals that they contain is potassium. This is a mineral that people can easily lack and low levels can cause all sorts of issues with heart rate etc. I have had to drink a potassium supplement before after ending up in emergency - it tasted awful and there were other places I would much rather have been.

So not all white foods are worthless.

Some bake potatoes are microwaved instead of baked in the oven. Wendy's are mircowaved and most times I can not eat it. baked in the oven really good no problem but slowly eat it. Microwaves make things harder.

elcee.......never met a potato I didn't like!!! I still eat them a couple of times a week. Either a golf ball sized baked potato or 1/4 to 1/2 cup of mashed or crock pot potatoes. I also have no problem eating the skin too.

I still have to respectfully disagree with you...if you are on a low carb diet, the white potato (along with foods made with white flour) is not a good choice. The carbs they contain are the ones which lead to the carb high and crash, and for many people that only leads to the craving for additional carbs. The result is a prescription for weight gain. I did not write that white foods are "worthless", only that they are lacking in nutritional value. With a band, everything one eats has to deliver big on nutritional value.

Yams (sweet potatoes) have more nutritional value, high Fiber, and are a complex carb, thus a better choice for the low carb diet. The sweet potato is considered to be a potassium super food, ranking well ahead the white potato in nutrition and potassium levels. Other good sources of potassium are yogurt and tomatoes. I'm certain there are more...

I'm a label reader, and question the wisdom of the manufacturer to see the list of chemical ingredients added to the over processed foods in general. Why process all of the nutritional value out of the ingredients, and then use chemicals to add some of the nutrition back in? If white bread and white rice are so nutritious, why would so many dietitians and surgeons leave them off their recommended food lists?

I find that simple and fresh foods work best for me, and what I was advised to use...I control what, if anything is added to them during preparation, and know what I am eating. It's a simple way to grocery shop; I avoid the middle of the store (only go there to get my coffee...), and avoid the bakery. On the periphery of the store you will find the produce, meat/fish, and dairy products...where the fresh and simple foods are.

Your mileage varies...

I agree that sweet potatoes have more nutritional value, but I was told not to eat them. I was told they can get stuck because of the Fiber. Was I mislead?

If you are on a high Protein low carb diet then it is understandable that you may not want to eat them, but if you are not then you should not be scared off them.

Potatoes are a natural food. Not something that have been processed to remove the goodness.

It is possible to take the no white food rule too far. I think the intention with this was originally to exclude processed foods but there are quite a few foods in nature that are white. The ones that spring to mind straight up are:-

onions

potatoes

garlic

cauliflower

parsnips

Got stuck so I googled and found this

Remember, not all white foods are created equal. Stick to natural white foods such as cauliflower, white Beans, apples, pears, turnips, garlic, white cabbage, cucumbers, white onions, fermented tofu, bean sprouts, egg whites, white meat chicken, turkey, endive, white meat tuna or other white fish as well as white low fat yogurt, white low fat/fat free cheeses or low fat/fat free soy milk. Research shows that eating white fleshed fruits and vegetables 2-4 servings a day, can cut stroke risk; that is related to quercetin, a flavonol antioxidant. See, there are lots of white foods to still enjoy! Eat them and stay healthy!

I don't have any problem with cooked broccoli. Don't think I have had raw broccoli since being banded just because I stay away from the dip!

I find it interesting that all of our LapBand eating instructions vary so much. I went in for my first fill last Monday and didn't get it because I was eating foods that were too "soft." I had had a "stuck" episode that scared the crap out of me and backed off on the normal foods that I had been eating and went with more soft- nutritional foods. I was afraid that I could damage my band with "stuck" episodes. When the doctor asked me what I had been eating- and I told him, he refused to fill me and told me to go eat a hamburger!!!!

He wants me to eat low carb. chicken sald, tuna salad, crab salad- hamburger with no bun etc.

I had been eating, low cal. healthy Soups, salad, fruit, vegetables....... I thought I was doing the right thing based on what my surgeon had said. I followed the post-op diet to a "T" and had transitioned myself to a "healthy" diet. My new doctor (who did not do my surgery) has different ideas on what his bandsters should eat.

So- I guess my point is....... What we all are eating is going to vary. Unless you are eating crap, empty calories, ice cream, shakes high clorie, non-nutritious food, we should be carefull to lecture or judge others.

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
