I Need A Lapband Buddy In Florida

Recommended Posts

Every time I ask my doctor what I can do to lose weight with graves his reply is that it's almost impossible because most of the weight is from Water weight from the medication ugh nothing can be impossible I just got to show them it's not impossible. So far today I went for a walk and did some squats and I'll work out again tonight some Zumba or a bike ride not sure yet but I really wanna see the scale say 1 something not 200's anymore.

Sounds like you have a very good plan now, but what about Water pills to prevent some of the water retention? I know they normally want to prescribe those for swelling and such, but maybe in small doses, it would help you lose some of the water weight. I am def not a medical person, but there has to be something to help you!

Thanks for all your inspiring words Dennis and ilean it helps me a lot. I am currently going for my AS in Nursing (RN) and in October I will be adding a phlebotomy degree to my list. I have a long way to go to become a nurse since I have no medical background. The phlebotomy is a way to get my foot in the door at a hospital and it's a hands on 8 week course so short and sweet. I really don't know how to count cards and Protein in all that can you to explain how to know what's in the food I'm eating and what are some things to defiantly steer clear of.

Hi Ashley! Awesome about your degree program! My brother completed his AS in nursing several years ago and it has done him well! He worked emergency medical and nursing jobs for several years, but finally landed a really nice job as Director of Nurses at one our state prisons. In that position, he was eligible for early state retirement and actually just retired at the ripe old age of 50!! The opportunities are endless in the nursing field and I know you will do awesome! Our local state college is the process of implementing a four-year program that will push our nursing programs to the bachelors level. A lot of people are excited about the opportunity here and I know it will be a highly successful program for the college and the community!

The good part is you always have your phone with you, you don't require a pad and pencil, and you really don't need to look at food labels either! The app takes care of all that for you. The really neat part is the bar code scanner. You can actually scan a food's bar code and add it to your meal plan for the day without once glancing at the nutrition label! The app generates a daily report and tells you where you are doing well and what needs to be improved as well. My weak points are always related to not enough Fiber and especially at breakfast! The app helps a lot, so give it a try, and if you are not satisfied, there are several others that are very good too!

Excellent Ashley! A major tool in losing weight is recording everything you eat or drink and also any activities that may have burned calories. These apps just make that task SO much easier than it used to be! Let me know you do over the next few weeks, because I think it will steadily just become part of your daily routine. Enjoy your weekend Ashley!!!!

Hi Ashley!

I have been wrapped up in a training session all morning and just got back to my office. LA Weight Loss used to stay on me about keeping a diary of my intake, exercise, Water, and other items, but it was super hard to do, especially in their paper diaries. Actually, keeping the diary was the hardest part of the diet!! I am like you, I was amazed at how easy and efficient many of the apps are now! The apps completely take all guess work and difficulties away from keeping a diary and make it much easier to keep track of things! Congratulations on losing another 5 lbs and I am betting this is only the first of such successes!! Thank you for sharing the good news with me Ashley.

Hey Ashley, sounds like you are getting lots of help and support. I just logged in today. I have been hanging out on OH and just heard of these forums.

I was banded 1/30/2012 and am down 101 pounds. Like Dennis, I have only had one fill and will not have anymore as long as I conti ue to lose. I also log every thing I eat and my exercise each day. I use MyFitnessPal.com which also has an app for iPhone and Android as I use both. I eat out all the time and also find many restaurants listed on it also. As aim losing, I am only eating two meals a day with One snack for around 500 calories in and burning 500 calories a day. Keep in touch with your NUT and surgeon so they can guide you.

Oh, I forgot to tell you that I grew up in Boca Raton and have been living in Orange Park (near Jacksonville, FL) for the past 12 years!

I would be happy to bea support buddy too.

Good morning SueBee!

You can definitely learn lots of helpful things on LBT and get tons of support as well! That is absolutely amazing that you were banded in January and already down 101 lbs!! I know you must feel wonderful and much healthier too! I think it is great when doctors are in tune with our weight loss journey and only apply fills when absolutely needed. Our bodies seem to get accustomed to certain foods and conditions, so it's nice to give it a shock occasionally! I've heard a lot of great things about MyFitnessPal and it is awesome you are tracking intake, exercise, and other pertinent information too. Congratulations on your success and it has been awesome meeting you SueBee!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
