Who Are The Best Lap Band Surgeons In Mexico ? Decisions Decisions!

Recommended Posts

I've decided to have my weight loss surgery in Mexico and I'm really excited. I've been saving up for surgery for almost two years now and I think this will be life changing for me.

I've been reading through hundreds of posts the last few weeks and have done outside research as well. I'm price sensitive but I won't save a few dollars and have my Lap Band surgery done in a strip mall clinic (like Alamanza and Jerusalem Hospital) or use a surgeon that doesn't have a lot of experience (like Garcia and Lopez.) My life is definitely very valuable to me and I'm not willing to risk it!

I've created my master Lap Band surgeon list and I'm thinking about using one of the following:

  • Dr. Alberto Aceves
  • Dr. Guillermo Alvarez
  • Dr. Ramos Kelly
  • Dr. Ariel Ortiz
  • dr. Ponce de leon
  • Dr. Liza Maria Pompa Gonzalez

They all have amazing reputations according to everything I've read and researched. They also operate out of real hospitals and not out of a garage!

Are there any other top top mexican surgeons I should be adding to my list for possible consideration ?

Hello! Congrats on your decision!

Just be sure to find a surgeon in your area before going to Mexico to have the Lap Band surgery. Most American doctors won't touch a patient who was banded in Mexico. There are some, but they are few and far between. I only tell you this so you don't come back with the band and no one to take care of you or do your fills.

Best wishes.

I'm still debating which procedure to go with. The Gastric Sleeve looks is where I'm leaning at the moment. Especially since there's a lot less follow up verse the Lap band aftercare.

I believe there's a Sleeve specific forum associated with this one. You might want to check there because people here would've had Lap Band in Mexico not the Sleeve. You would probably have more luck getting referrals.

Good luck in whatever you choose

I was banded in Mexico by doctor Pedro Kuri and if I had the chance to do it all over again here in Utah or there I would go there in a heartbeat. We were treated like royalty and Dr Kuri is truly an angel.

Also my doctor here in the states has met him and he has an excellent reputation. The office I go to sees about 100 of his patients. I have three personal friends all banded by him before me who all loved him as well. They were amazing and the band cost was $5500 total.

I was also bands by Dr Kuri and had a great experience. I've also heard nothing but good things about Dr. Ortiz. Kuri only does bands. Ortiz does the sleeve as well as the and I believe.

My IPad is difficult to type with. What I meant is I believe Dr. Ortiz does various forms of weight loss surgery.

I was banded by Dr. Ortiz and had a great experience. I go back to him for fills and have not had any problems. They will help you with lodging and made the whole experience with the effort. Feel free to shoot me a message if you have any questions.

Best of luck!

I also was banded by Ortiz in October of last year (almost a year! aaah!) i've had 1 fill and lost 70 lbs, no complications. He and his staff were amazing, the marriott where we stayed was wonderful. We went back for our fill, and everything was great again (except the wait at the border getting back.) He DOES do the sleeve. We (my sister and I were both banded by him) had a great experience and would go back in a heartbeat.

Through my research, i'm definately going with Dr. Kuri. My surgery is within 3 months from now. Look him up on Youtube as well. In talking with many people.....I love the fact that he has so much experience not to mention the level of compassion he has.

P.S. On experience alone, I feel better that a Mexican Lapband Doctor does my surgery than an American Doctor.

Do your own research though !

Hi,

I am going with Dr Alberto Aceves. My best friend had him and loved him. You stay at a hospital for 2 days they do a barium swallow to check for placement of your band and the cost is 6500.00 which incl all pre op,post op, surgeon fees, everything, medications, driver to pick u up at San Diego airport and drive you to Mexicali which is 1 blk over the us border. Good luck with your decision. :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
