Not Drinking With Meals?

Recommended Posts

Somebody help me figure this out. I was a huge drinker with my meals and I'm on to mushies and they told me to start working on it before I get to solids. I drink an hour or so before and I'm counting down the minutes after to be able to drink. It's probably all in my head but I feel like I'm dying of thirst until I can drink. How do I do this and get used to it? I am so wanting to drink all the time and would rather drink than eat lol which is weird I know. HELP?

it gets better with time. I'm almost 5 weeks post op and I've gotten used to it now. Yes there are times that I'm thirsty after eating but I try to focus on other things. One thing you might try and I don't do this very often as I don't want to recommend it but put a piece of ice in your mouth and then spit it out just to wet your mouth. In my seminar I was told I could drink right up to my meal then I had to wait an hour after so that is what I've been doing. Good luck.

My surgeon said I can drink right up until I start eating. No drinking while eating, then I can drink again 30 minutes after.

It took some getting used to but now it's second nature.

If I couldn't drink an hour before eating too, I wouldn't be able to do it. That would be hard.

I think you need to visualize. Think of your small pouch being nice and full but then you drink something and wash it all away. Then you're hungry again. The food needs to sit there for a while so you feel full. Helps me.

I like your doctor's advice. I agree, one hour prior to eating is just way too long and unnecessary. Water just flows through the band and is out of the stomach in minutes.

I drink up until meal arrives but nothing after that for at least 30 minutes or I will puke. Kind of like a shock collar. If you do it a few times you figure out it just is not pleasant. At least that is how it works for me.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
