I have read that some people are following a 90/10 diet. Just from what I have read it sounds like this means following the lapband diet guidelines very closely 90% of the time and allowing oneself some excess 10% of the time. I could be misunderstanding though. Can those of you following this diet tell me more about it please? Thanks :)

I don't follow a diet. the reason I got banded was so that I could give up dieting.I follow the guidelines my Dr has given me 99% of the time.

What most people mean by 90/10 is not that they are only sticking to the rules 90% of the time but they are eating healthy, lowfat, nutritious food 90% of the time but they do allow themselves a small treat from time to time. For example eating 2 squares of chocolate a day will not make you obese - eating the whole block will. Nobody expects you to give up all "treat foods" for ever. Trying to do so is more likely to make you crave them and then give in and have more. Allowing them takes away that strong hold they have on you.

So go ahead give yourself permission to include treats in moderation unless you are the kind of person that cannot stop once you start - then you might be better avoiding them altogether.

Sounds like elcee summed it up perfectly. Sounds like a more realistic lifestyle to me too - knowing you can sometime/someday have something you love just not always.

I suppose the 90/10 would be a good description of what I do. Once a month I allow myself a freebie meal of whatever I want, regardless of calories or fat grams. Today was my birthday so I went to lunch and had crab alfredo. I think of it as allowing myself to be human, and flawed, and simply wanting a meal of my choice regardless of how bad it may be for me.

But 90% of the time (probably more like 98% of the time for me) I do eat healthy and track my calories, Protein, carbs, and fat daily.

I agree with the above description. I don't keep processed carbs in my house crackers, candy, bread, Pasta, ice cream, chips, etc. Though I do have Kashi Go Lean that I add to my greek yogurt; but I don't eat it as Cereal with milk. If I'm at a dinner party though and the main course is pasta I eat it and don't feel remorse.

Bob Harper on BL said that the contestants have a cheat meal every week. He said that it is actually good for your metabolism because it kicks you out of diet/starvation mode. For me, it keeps me from going nuts and feeling deprived. I can't keep anything naughty in the house though. If I do, I will eat the whole bag/box/whatever. I am a compulsive over eater. If I watch what I keep at home and allow myself an occasional indulgence, I tend to do fine. My weight loss is super slow, but I am also still working on really listening to my band. Right now I am focusing on following the rules to a tee to see if I can't speed things up a bit.

I am a vegetarian, so my diet is very different from most people here. I also have a milk allergy, so I generally do not consume milk products except yogurt, which for some reason does not make me cough, sneeze, itch, etc... Protein is the big challenge in a veg diet, especially since a lot of veg Protein is also full of carbs. I do watch my carbs in that I don't eat bread, only have Pasta once a month, eat who grains like brown rice and quinoa. This actually works well for me because I feel foggy and listless when I restrict carbs too much. I will generally have a cup of coffee, then wait until I get hungry for Breakfast. I often have a tofu scramble or 1/2 Amy's veggie burrito for Breakfast, and the other 1/2 for lunch. I will generally have a serving of fresh fruit with lunch. If I get hungry before dinner, I have raw veggies with a dip made of low fat Greek yogurt, buttermilk, and herbs. I keep the snack at around 100 calories. Occasionally, I will have a few walnuts and an apple for snack instead. If my allergies are doing okay, I might have a low fat mozzarella stick. dinner is typically a stir fry with tofu or replacement meat, a salad with quinoa and nuts, a bowl of homemade Soup with some kind of Beans and a tiny bit of Pasta, a veggie chili with Beans, or a low fat burrito bowl. If I get the munchies, I may have some fruit or a few Mary's Gone Crackers sticks and twigs, which are whole grain and have protein. I will say that my big focus is consuming plenty of fruits and veggies b/c they are low cal, filling and gives me plenty of cancer fighting nutrients. My diet works for me. Wine is my big downfall. I am trying to stay away 100% b/c it makes me bloat and adds too many extra calories.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

        I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.
