Overwhelmed, How Do You Keep It All Together?

Recommended Posts

I had my first in depth nutrition class this morning and it is all so overwhelming! So much information, do's, don'ts, and it is all making my head spin. I have been reading and researching this for so long I thought I knew everything and now I feel I know nothing. I have even panicked a bit and thought about pulling out of the surgery. :(

You will do great! You've done your homework and know MOST of what you need to be successful. Just like anything new, you are simply getting a case of butterflies and uncertainty is setting in! Once you get into the swing of things, it will become the norm for you and the pounds will melt away! Can't wait to hear about your successes!

I've been a student of nutrition for about 35 years now. I think I knew most of what I learned in the seminars and nutrition classes. Learning what I can eat and what I shouldn't eat isn't that difficult. Learning what my band will let me eat has been a new experience. But it's good that I was able to understand why I should avoid white foods(simple carbs).

Not understanding why we eat as we have to eat shouldn't hold you back. You will be told what to eat for the first 2 months of your new life. After that you will begin to understand why. But it's impossible to explain so all will understand prior to surgery. These are rules and knowledge you will use with or without LBS. It's knowledge that even regular dieters don't understand but should know.

Throw yourself into this and you will learn and you can succeed.

BTW-Being a know-it-all in nutrition didn't give me the tool I needed to keep me from overeating and knowing what my triggers are.

Keep in mind that for many of us, losing weight is a daily battle in the war against genetics as well. Some folks can eat 6 ounces of chicken breast and be fine and others may eat 4 and gain weight. What works for one person, may not work as well for you. You will eventually find that perfect combination and see results very quickly.

Try to take away one or two key points from each meeting or presentation. They have to throw a lot of information at us fairly quickly. What I did was set this information aside and browsed it during recovery. I was bored anyway.

Don't let this overwhelm you. Your practice is there to support you and the discussion boards are a great resource for those times you just are not sure of what to do.

I agree. I am about 5 weeks post op and the amount of information and opinions out there really can make your head spin. Educate yourself on the basics and remember that ultimately, it's about what works for YOU. Do not expect perfection of yourself.

Thank you :) truthfully I lost the majority of that during the 6 month supervised diet. I wasn't super strict on myself but I cut out fast food, pop, and started cooking for the first time in my life. I joined a gym, and made sure to exercise 5 days a week. Now just trying to stick to a strict band diet and keep up the exercise. So far so good.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
