Hi!

I have a consultation tomorrow so I am doing as much research as possible, I keep reading about shoulder pain post-op. Can someone tell me what the cause is, and how long does it last?

Also, if you can suggest any questions I might need to ask, I have a list but just in case I've over looked something, I'd appreciate any input.

Thanks so much!

It is from the carbon dioxide gas that they pump into you during surgery, so that the surgeon will have more room to work. This is how they are able to do the procedure without large incisions. It lingers after the surgery for a few days. It irritates the phrenic nerve in the diaphragm which radiates to the shoulder.

It goes away after about 4 days. That was the only discomfort I had. Surgery was EASY. Had surgery on May 17h. Down about 15 from pre-op and post surgery.

Unfortunately you will always get the shoulder pain from time to time. I am getting it a few times a week and my lap band was in 2006!

It's good to know, I read part of the book my surgeon gave me, and it talks about the pain too so I am expecting it.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
