Surgery Is In 4 Days And I Am Terrified

Recommended Posts

I am a low BMI, self pay, soon to be bandster. The doctor explained that, because I am in good health to start with, my recovery will be significantly easier....BUT I am very scared of the pain. What can I do to help cope with this feeling? :(

BreBre, You will have some discomfort post op like with any other surgery. You will have some mild gas pains and possibly some nausea. They will or should offer you pain medication, my suggestion is take it. When I woke up in the PACU I was having a lot of pain in my back, GAS. They gave me medication it helped some but actually the moving around helped me more. My second day post op was my worst, I was very nauseated and had a hard time making my self drink or eat. I lived on GAS-x and phenergan for the first few days. I will not tell you that you won;t have pain because you will, but it is bearable and you will make it. Good luck and I know you will do great.

Thanks for the encouragement. I know there will be pain, I'm just a little baby. haha. I have heard from several women that the 3rd day is when everything starts to feel like it's back to normal. If I can go through child birth without an epidural, I think I should be alright. lol It's just nerve wrecking. I want it over with!

I experienced no pain whatsoever. Piece of cake. I did have a little aching in my left shoulder for a week or more but nothing to be afraid of. You'll be fine. It's a simple operation if you're a low BMI like I was.

You will be totally fine. There will be some pain for the first few days but it's not unbearable. Get a heating pad and take the pain meds on schedule. Before you know it, it'll be a distant memory. :)

my bmi was 32 when i was banded 16th may 2012

it has taken me until now 12 days post op - to be almost back to normal

I thought i would be back to work 5 - 7 days after op - in fact 1

i needed 2 weeks recovery

the pain has not been bad at all - just feel stiff (tummy area) and driving was difficult for 1 week after for me.

The gas (as everyone says) is a nuisance - but I still have NO REGRETS

good luck

sam x

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
