Hot Weather Affecting My Band!

Recommended Posts

I think I remember this happening from last summer. But starting this week my band has become really tight and the weather has been getting pretty warm in the last couple of days. And my port has been feeling really tender. I havent really noticed my port since last summer and it was really tender in August and in to September when it was in the 90s. Has anyone been noticing this also? I think it has something to do with the weather. (or am I crazy)

I think I might have to go into get a slight unfill if this keeps up. I am hardly able to eat anything and even my shakes in the morning are giving me a harder time. This is the second time in three days that I have had a hard time getting something pretty easy down and then I have alot of burps and a little bit of reflux.

I am going to call the doctor tomorrow and see if they can get me in before the weekend. I am so close to goal, I am not looking forward to an unfill, but am really not looking forward to a slip or something else either. So I will be a good girl and get an unfill and see what happens. I am hoping just .5 or .25 will do it and put me back in the green zone...

Uggg, I bet its hot there. I hope its not true in your case  This is the only thing that I can think of that has affected my band in the last couple of days. I havent change anything or eaten anything out of the ordinary. And from what I remember from last summer, it seems to be the same type of irritation. I could be that its just my band and the weather. Everyone seems to have their own band quirkyness. :D

Good Luck to you! I see you are just getting started. Welcome to bandland! Even with these irritations, I am so happy that I got the band. Everyone is asking me if I am done losing yet. I just tell them I am not sure yet. Just seeing where my body is comfortable at. I seem to get stuck at a even number for awhile and think I am done, but then it pushes through for a couple of more pounds. I am stuck at 169 ish and have been for about a month now. But I am hoping that my body will push through one more time and get me to 160 ish. But we will see. I feel fantastic right now. (you will too soon)

Do you have seasonal allergies? I live in AZ and it is pretty freaking hot here. I don't notice the heat affecting my band... but I do notice I feel tighter when my allergies kick in. For instance today is super windy and that makes my allergies flare. I wasn't able to eat as much for lunch. Just a thought.

It is possible the heat does affect our restriction. My fingers swell more with the heat and my rings become tighter or looser depending on the season. Maybe the same thing happens internally?

I went in yesterday and got .75 taken out. Feel much better. But I think im gonna have to concentrate on what I eat now. Everything goes down pretty well now. But this could be good cause I need to work on maintaining anyway.

It sometimes happens to me. Also allergies tighten me up something horrible. I had the same problem with the heat in Mexico last week and just switched to softer meals and took it slow. Now I am fine. If in doubt always try mushies & liquids and this can reset your band and calm things down. Kind of like a computer reboot :). Good luck!

I live in Florida and I too get tender around my port and my band gets very tight. I drove up to RI to visit my family and as soon as I got there I was able to eat way too much. When I got back to Florida I couldn't eat a thing. I went to my doctor to get an until and he told me that the sinuses are directly connected to the issue I was having with my band. He said that post nasal drip causes the band to tighten. He said my sinuses cleared up in RI and when I got back to FL they clogged back up. So I went again for a fill last week and have only been able to tolerate liquids; I came down with a cold a few days after my fill. I bought some nasal spray and was able to eat immediately. So I totally understand. For the longest time i wondered why one day i could eat and the next day i couldnt now i know its from Living in Florida and having sinus issues often. And my nose isn't stuffy unless I'm sick but apparently I always have sinus pressure so I guess this nasal spray will be my new best friend

I will have to try nasal spray. I have had a lot of sinus issues this spring. Good tip! Thanks.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
