Blocked V's Overfilled ???

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I was banded about 2.5 yrs ago and so far so good. until last week.........

I got sick late last yr and became underweight and exhausted, so went and had a small unfill. In about 10 weeks i regained 7kg...i little too much for my liking at I was hoping for about 3.5 tops..... but I found myself in much better health.

So last week i went back for a small fill as I found my portion consumption was increasing, as was my appetite and i was looking for food in between meals...not cool. My dr gave me a teeny tiny 0.1ml adjustment (i know it sounds crazy but it did make a difference) ..... taking me up to a grand total of 6.1ml in a 10ml band. in the first few days i did notice a slight restriction which was what i was after. however on the 3rd day I managed to eat a fair amount of pork mince in a meal for dinner - it has been disaster ever since :( I am struggling to keep drinks down unless I go super slow, I am super sliming (ewwww), and can't even keep Soup down. everything comes back up within minutes.

What i am trying to work out is if I need to unfill again or am i blocked from the mince??? Have tried walking, bending and stretching, burping and pineapple juice (which came back up). I went for 18 months without a fill/ unfill so I have kind of forgotten what it feels like in that week post fill....sounds daft i know !

Does anyone have any sure fire methods to remedy blockages that they can suggest before i head back to my dr who is over 250 km away:(

all ideas greatfully accepted !!!

ps - lost 39kg (biggest loss during illness) now back to a total of 32 kg loss

My son,( who ,also, has lapabnd) spoke with a woman who works in the lapband offcie in Britian while on vacation. She said that her office recommends coke. My nutruionist recommends pineapple juice for a bad blockage. Best wishes. Karen

I just read this post and these tips will definelty come in hand. I think I just got over a bad blockage because I lost 11 pounds in 9 days. Boy do I feel much better today. I couldnt eat or drink anything. And the night time acid reflux was killing me. I finally broke down and brought some more Prevacid. I took one last night before dinner and didnt have any issues last night. I sleep like a Queen. Prevacid is the only acid blocker that works for me.

thank you everyone for you kind replies. I think the pineapple juice may have helped to move along what was most likey a blockage......still not convinced though and think i may need an unfill.....at least today I have managed to keep small amounts of hot liquids down and a little bit of Soup. YIPPEE !!! and am most definately feeling more comfortable.

Shall give it a few more days and if i am still feeling too restricted than I shall go back to dr. I don't want to not eat !! I like eating and it is not healthy to eat too little....but finding that balance is sooo hard - especially when i only had such a small amount in my fill.....

shall wait and see - but thank you so much for your ideas - very much appreciated :)

well the official verdict is that it was indeed a blockage. After my last post I was able to finally remove it.......and it was indeed to pesky pork mince that I shall never have again !!! (famous last words)......I did kind of freak out by the fact that a solid food matter could remain stuck for so many days though......that is foul :(

anyway i think the constant small sips of pineapple juice worked a treat...shall keep this one up my sleeve for next time..I have been telling all my fellow lap band buddies to try it too if they get stuck.

thanks for the help !!!

cheers

I have kept papaya enzyme tablets with me all the time. They are chewable. 3-4 seem to do the trick to help that stuck food "dissolve".

But, the best advice is always to eat small bites, chew well and slow down.

I did learn the hard way with a stuck piece of moist delicious corned beef on st. Patrick's day!!!! I was in agony for 5 hours and finally got rid of the offending piece..... Not pretty, but I learned!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
