Surgery 2 Years Ago, I've Regained All My Weight .. What Now?

So, I had surgery 2 years ago and did really well for the first 5 months. I was never a fast looser but I lost steadily - 1-2 pounds a week - for the first couple of months. Well, except the week after surgery where I lost 6 pounds. But 2 years later, I weight exactly the same weight I did the day before surgery. I still throw up most Proteins - chicken especially unless its in Soup - and unless a food can be made mushy, it's no good. I'm so frustrated. And am definitely not a big supporter of the surgery today. But I loved it originally. I fought long and hard to get the surgery. What do I do now?

that's got to be hard. I'm sorry. sounds like you need a little unfill, and to recommit to the process. you can do it!

What does your Dr say? Or your nutritionist? So many questions to be asked it's difficult for anyone here to diagnose why you aren't losing? Are you too tight? Do you chew your food more than before? Small bites? Are you exercising? How many calories are you consuming? Are you eating sugar? Are you consuming calorie laden soft drinks? Fats? Why did you wait 1.5 years to seek advise?

See, the questions can be endless. I spent 2 hours with my nutritionist and found out why I wasn't losing the weight I had expected. She really opened my eyes to how I can lose an extra 2-3 lbs a month simply by eliminating or cutting back on some food choices I had made.

Unlike GBS we bandsters can cheat on the band so we really must exercise more restraint in what and how we eat.

If you can't eat solid Proteins and can only eat mushies then i would say you are too tight. If you are too tight then you are probably eating sliders which do not satisfy you and are often high calorie so can lead to weight gain.

It is possible that you ended up too tight as you thought, as many mistakenly do, that a tighter band equals better weight loss. The converse is actually true. A band needs to be tight enough to help slow down the passage of food and increase levels of saiety on smaller portions but it also needs to be loose enough for a person to eat the right types of food . It is also possible that you thought that a tight band would stop you wanting/eating all those bad foods but that is something a band can never do.

I think you need to go and have some fill out so that you can eat proper foods again. You should work with your dietician to see what and how much you should be eating. You will need to realise that the control is in your head or hands and that you are the "driver" of the band. You have to make the correct choices for it to work. If you have a problem with this as many do then you may need to see a food psychologist to find out why you eat when not hungry and techniques for managing it.

Hope that you are able to get back on track and achieve the success that you want.

Within that 2 years, how many fills did you have, and how much total saline in what sizes band?

And you kept regular Dr. Visits the entire time, never having a complete unfill or other complications?

Just curious...I'm coming up on 2 years and always looking out for posts like these.

I agree with EVERYTHING elcee said. A too tight band equals no weight loss or a gain. You need to eat dense Proteins in order to enjoy the full benefits of the band - satiety for 4-6 hours after eating. Good luck!

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
