What To Do After You Reach Goal?!

Recommended Posts

I am not there yet but much closer to a healthy weight than .. well EVER! Feel great and people are really starting to notice and comment. It's a wonderful thing but being obese all my life a large majority of time has been spent thinking about losing weight, trying to lose weight, etc. Now I am starting to have odd feelings about being at (or around) goal weight. What do I strive for? What will a large portion of my world be substituted with? I know that once I hit that ellusive # or size I won't be pooping gum drops or riding around on unicorns but it just feels odd for lack of a better term.

Thanks for listening!

Any thoughts?

i'm glad you asked this because i'm wondering the same thing - i am about 20-25 pounds from goal and i'm wondering how my mindset will need to change - right now it's lose, lose, lose - i imagine instead of getting on the scale every morning praying for a lower number i'll be equally begging for it to be the "same" number - which will be a very, very odd thought/feeling for me since i do not recall a time when i ever stepped on a scale not hoping for a loss since the last time i was on the scale.

The slower you lose the more you wont have to change at goal. You will have already long been out of diet mode. At least that was true for me. I just do exactly as I did before I reached goal and my weight naturally levelled off at a normal BMI. The main adjustment now is getting used to not being fat and making myself pick up a size 6 in a store because I never think they will fit but they always do. My weight never changes by more than two pounds and I am finally not weighing myself every single day.

I never dieted or worked out so I just let my band help me eat less and I gave some real thought to the choices I ate so for me the losing phase and the maintaining phase arent that different.

How long have you been banded?

I also was wondering this as I am getting pretty darn close, but I am still losing rapidly. I lost 9.6 pounds just last week...I do not want to have to problem of being underweight

Well dont ask me, ive been below goal for years and my body demons have not gone away. I havent suddenly accepted myself at mormal weight, I lways think about losing more and staying at a BMI of 20 takes quite a lot of focus and energy.

So.... Life hasnt really changed that much in that sense. Dont get me wrong, I Love my new body, i enjoy being thin, i wake up thankful very day. But I ill never be a persn who just doesn think about what they eat or weigh.

Im happy though. It doesnt overwhelm my life, and I dont live on a diet. I guess if anyhing Ive shifted focus to fitness achievements, Im a running fanatic.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
