Lap Band + Plication. Just Got Back From The Hospital.

Recommended Posts

Remember that some of your nausea could be from the anesthesia. Alos I would suggest to not force too many liquids down. Only drink what your doctor reccomends and don't force more down than neccessay for right now. Good luck to all of new bansters!!!!!

Guitar--where did u have ur surgery done? My band with plication surgery is 4/2...now I'm freaking out a little! Lol

I had it at Rose Medical Hospital by Dr. Snyder. Don't freak out! I know it will be worth it in the end.

I am a weenie when it comes to pain ; ) It was just different and because there isn't a lot known about

it, its hard to know what to expect in pre-op. My mom had the Lap Band and she is telling me I should

feel a certain way but because of the plication we have no idea what else is supposed to happen.

Well if it helps at all, I'm in Dallas and know a woman that had the band and plication in November and has lost 70lbs! So it's worth the pain! Good luck, it will get better soon. Please keep me updated ;)

Why was your post-op so awful? My mom had the lap band and she was back to work in two days no big deal.

There is noooo friggin way I could go back to work tomorrow. I have had other surgery's but I have to say this

has been the most painful and difficult as far as post-op.

The pain wasn't bad at all, and I had had surgery before and bounced back pretty quick, so that is what I expected this time. The first two days were fine, but then the third day I was extremely weak and light-headed, which lasted for another four days. After the seventh day post-op, I've been fine. I still have a little light-headedness when I stand up after bending over or stooping down, but it's manageable. My PCP just reduced my BP med, so hopefully that will go away, too.

Hey everyone!

-Second day home and I feel a little bit better. My shoulders don't hurt nearly as bad, I'm pretty sure that the gas is gone

for the most part. I have found that taking a hot shower helps a lot. I can finally tell that my stomach is doing okay, so now

its just the stab wounds that hurt : ) I only woke up once last night to go to the bathroom. I have never been the person

to drink a lot of Water. I just ate a lot of food and got hydrated that way. Does anybody know if Ill stop using the bathroom so

often? I know I will have to constantly drink Water now for the rest of my life but I cant keep using the bathroom every hour! lol

.... Spoke too soon. I just got extremely nauseous and almost threw up. Maybe my stomach is still irritated. Ugh.

Ill update later this afternoon!

Your body and bladder will adjust to the sudden influx of drinking a lot of Water and you shouldn't have to go every hour!! I'm sure part of what is causing the frequency now are the IV fluids you had in the hospital. Sorry you're experiencing the nausea, I was fortunate that that wasn't one of the problems I had. Oh, and the gas pains may come and go for a few days, so don't be surprised if the shoulder pain returns. When I wasn't walking off the gas pains, I was using a heating pad. Gas-X did nothing for me.

It's really cool that there are so many people getting plication. I was the second person that my doctor had ever done plication on so I was extremely nervous but its nice to see a whole lot of other people doing it as well. Good luck with your surgery. I added you as a friend so we can stay in touch.

Dang I thought they would be gone. I hope the urinating thing goes away haha. It would be impossible for me to go back to work and have to go to the bathroom every hour. At first I though the nausea was from trying to drink the Protein shakes

yesterday, but I haven't even tried a Protein shake this morning yet so now I am just a little confused. I do have a heating

blanket so maybe I will use that for my shoulders.

Your body will get used to the extra Water. I had been making sure to drink 100+ ounces a day for the last month leading up to surgery, so my potty breaks are relatively normal. I am positive the gas pains for me only comes after I've eaten. It's like the food wants to go down, and the gas wants to come up, and the only way of relieving without vomiting is to burp. I haven't got nauseous yet this morning, but did just finish my first Protein Shake. Hope your recovery continues smoothly!

I'm jealous. I still can't finish my first Protein Shake yet. All I can do is sugar free Jello and Water.< /p>

I tried to do the sugar free Jello yesterday and something about it was wrong. Today the shake went down well and I definitely am full, maybe a little overfull, but am also feeling a little bloaty, so it may just be that. I think it's time to get up and walk around to help relieve some of the pressure. I'm about halfway through my first 20oz Water too.

Are you feeling better today?

Ya I am feeling a bit better. My shoulders don't hurt as much which is nice. I do feel bloated though. I had some nausea

twice so far today but still not throwing up. Just salivating a lot. I have been walking around just fine. I am almost done with my first 16 oz Water and I'm going to start a second one. I still can't really tell what I need because of the pain I'm in.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
