Yesterday I had an appt with my dietician and excercise guy and everything went well. I can finally start reg food ( Surgery was Feb 8th ). I've lost 26 pounds since my surgery, I feel great, not real hungry ( think the hungry is more from watching tv at night and seeing all those pizza ads ) eating 1/2 cup per meal.. My dietician says that I will probably need to get my first fill at the end of the month because they want me to be eating 1/4 cup per meal. ?????? If I'm losing wt on the 1/2 cup why do I need to go down to 1/4 cup??? Did any of you tell your dr. you don't want a fill?? put it off for another time??

I was told 1 cup of food. Sometimes my food is more, sometimes it is less.

She told me yesterday, that without a fill and just newly banded I could eat anywhere from 1/4 to 1 cup, but they want me to be at a 1/4 cup of food with the fill and once I've met my goal I will maintain at 1 cup... She said since I was doing so well on the 1/2 that the fill would be very very small, they just want me down to 1/4 cup so I can get to my goal wt.. I was just wondering since I seem to be losing the wt on the 1/2 just fine why I still need the fill? I get getting down to 1/4 cup but I don't want to lose the wt to fast, because I don't want to get to sick and I don't want to gain it back...

1/4 cup seems like a really small amount of food. I was banded on Feb 3rd and my Dr. had me on solids about three weeks out. Went for first fill yesterday and he put in 3cc. I could not get Water down. Felt pressure in my chest and started getting the hiccups really bad. He took out some of the fill and the pressure in my chest left and the hiccups stopped almost immediately. I have lost almost 30 lbs since surgery eating a 1/2 cup to 1 cup of food 3 times a day. Not a snack person or grazer. I was really surprised I could not tolerate the 3cc. Don't know how much he took out, forgot to ask. I think if you are doing fine without a fill, don't see any reason to get one!

I am an old dog in maintenance and I eat about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of all foods and keep my weight where it is easily...1/4 seems pretty small and will have you eating more often. I eat about every 2-3 hours but I think if I could or would eat a whole cup it would be more like 4 hours...I like this way I am but whatever works...I agree about not wanting to be too tight!

I say if you're losing, let it be. I don't see how you can get all the nutrients you need in 1/4 cup of food.< /p>

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
