Many things besides your band could be affecting your weight. If you feel you now have great restriction and are consuming less calories than you burn through activity and exercise, then you should be losing weight...unless you're on medication or have medical conditions that affect weight. There is nothing in a gastric band that will automatically trigger weight loss. All it does is reduce your appetite and create early and prolonged satiety when you eat solid foods (preferably healthy ones).

Have you tried logging your food to see what you're really consuming in terms of calories and macronutrients? I highly recommend weighing/measuring your food and logging it, at least for a week, so that you can determine if you're really consuming less calories than you burn. Personally, I'm terrible at guesstimating food amounts. I cut myself a piece of chicken that I think weighs 2 ounces, but when I actually weigh it, it's 4 ounces.

My first thought would be to ask does "great restriction" to you mean too tight? Some people get too tight and conciously, or subconciously begin eating sliders. If that's the case you need to make certain you're getting in lots of dense Protein. This will keep you full longer and help with the urge to snack. I can't think of any other reason you would not be losing weight with great restriction. Remember restriction is not the inability to eat, but the ability to eat most healthy foods and be satisfied on less of it for long periods of time. Best luck to you as you continue on this GREAT Journey!!!! :)

Sliders are foods you can eat easily (and generally aren't too healthy for you, such as ice cream, potato chips, Cookies, etc.). Could it be you are still maybe eating too large of a portion? Keep your meals to a cup maximum. If you have the good restriction then this should keep you full for several hours.

O dear I have had sliders because I can keep them down but I don't go over 1200 calories. Thanks

I've been told to stay away from slider foods and to eat dense Protein. By this they mean meat, chicken and fish, baked or broiled. Casseroles, Soups, and enchilada type foods will have a great deal more calories and less protein, vut will go down almost too easily. In essence you are working against your band by eating these foods. I am in the green zone and do not get stuck and rarely vomit. I am however able to go 6 to 7 hours without being hungry after eating a high proten meal. Hope something in this helps. Oh yes, definately journal your food! Good luck!

Yes all of it helps thanks a lot. Starting tomorrow I will go back on Soups, chicken, salads so hopefully the weight will start to drop like in the beginning. Thanks

Vomiting should not be a normal part of your routine. If you cannot eat dense Protein foods, then your band is too tight. Are you certain you are not over 1200 calories? I used to estimate mine, and when I started journaling was shocked to see I was actually eating around 1700 a day.

Really not going over 1200 but will start keeping a tracker of food from tomorrow. If ur band is to tight do u loose weight.

If your band is too tight, you generally stop losing weight because you tend to gravitate toward slider foods because they are easier to eat. Most slider foods have more calories and don't keep you satisfied as long.

For example, 1/2 cup of Tomato Soup has 90 calories, and 1 skinless chicken thigh has 109 calories. Which one will hold you longer? If you have the Soup, you will be looking for food sooner. So, you have more soup, because you cannot get the chicken to go down. Now you've consumed 180 calories, but you aren't satisfied. So, you grab a milkshake, or some chips, or Cookies. At least they have some substance to them, and they taste oh, so good. And chips and Cookies and anything highly processed goes down so easily, and is generally so much higher in calories than fresh foods. But even cookies and chips don't keep you satisfied as long as solid Proteins like chicken, beef, and fish.

And a tighter band can lead to erosion (where the band goes through your stomach wall to the inside of your stomach). We are far better off with our bands at a reasonable restriction level where we can eat solid Proteins without vomiting often (which can put us at risk of a slip), and have the solid foods hold us between meals without the need to graze.

Every time my band has been too tight, I either stopped losing weight or I re-gained weight because I was eating high-calorie, low-satiety "slider" foods. The band does not provide early and prolonged satiety unless you eat solid food. Your stomach has to expand and contract to digest solid food, and that action stimulates the vagus nerves that send satiety messages to your brain. liquids and sliders don't do that, nor do they keep hunger at bay for very long.

Thanks for the technical and concise explanation of what I was trying to say! :)

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
