Getting My First Fill Tomorrow...

Recommended Posts

so the day has finally come. i cant wait to get my fill tomorrow but im worried that i wont get any restriction. just wondering everyones experiences with first fills... has anyone gone straight to a half fill or has their dr let them do the Water test on the first fill. i am so ready to just do this diet/lifestyle. i am also hoping they let me start my workouts. i got the julien michaels 30 day shred, it;s like a water downed version of insanity. anyway i just want to kinda know what to expect tomorrow. i have to drive 2 hrs each way and i just dont want to get there and expect all this restriction and not get anything. got banded 1/12

I'm not sure I don't even have surgery until on the 6th of March but I was wondering how long you been banded and how much did you lose up until your 1st fill. I'm worried I wont' lose a thing!! :(

I went in for my first fill on Feb 1st (it didnt happen due to my port flipping over, but thats a different story). My Dr is going to put 4-5 cc for the first fill, then I will be able to go back every 2 weeks for fills until I'm at a good restriction. I go in today to get my port flipped back over and my first fill...so, I am really hoping I feel some restriction at 4cc

i lost 20 on the pre op liquid diet. which for me was 6 muscle milk lights. the smaller ones from costco. and Water. a couple days after the surgery i already felt back to normal. no restriction it was like i never even had the surgery. and i wasnt even allowed to workout besides walking or stationary bike. i went back 2 weeks post op hoping for a fill but he said i have to wait til week 5 but he does not expect patients to lose weight until they get some restriction. these 5 weeks have been so disappointing cuz u get the band and expect to just start down the road to sucess and watch the lbs melt away but ita definitely not like that. hopefully tomorrow i will get a good restriction and be living it up baby!!! never thought i would be so excited to only eat 3 C of food a day but yes maam i cant wait!!!

I had 2.5 cc in during surgery. I believe at my first fill I got 1.5 cc taking me to 4cc. pretty much you will feel restriction, but whether it lasts is another thing. Your surgeon may have you make your next appointment right away (another 4 weeks maybe?) or you'll be like me, and just call when you need it. I would have preferred the set appointments to be honest. Don't worry, I'm sure it will be fine. I don't know what the Water test is....I have to slowly drink water in the office before I can leave so they make sure I can swallow/drink.

OK, I got my port fixed and my first fill. I asked the doctor how much my band holds, and he said it is a 14 cc band, he added 6 1/2 cc today. I have to admit, having my port turned back over was an interesting experience to say the least. It was NOT painful, my doctor was gentle and made sure if I felt any pain he would add more novacaine. It was strange to feel him moving and tugging in my stomach and to raise my head and see him examining my port. He did my fill before suturing it back in. I am now having my Protein Shake for dinner. I can feel a little restriction but its a good feeling!!! I'm a happy girl now

I go back in on March 5th for my second fill. The doctor said 2-3 weeks, and when I scheduled my appointment they set it out for 3 weeks. I stepped on the scale today, and i'm down 2lbs since Monday. I'm so relieved! I had gained 5lbs over the past 3 weeks, so its good to have 2 of those off....its so great to see and feel results!

I had a pre-fill during surgery of 3cc. A week later, I thought my band was too tight and he removed 1cc. The next day I realized I had been measuring my food wrong and had just been eating too much. (ugh!). Today was my 3 wk check-up and he did a fill. At 1cc(add), I was ok. At 1.5, I was okay. At 2cc, I felt like the Water was going to come back up. That's a weird feeling when you know you're not sick. So, he backed it back down to 1.5cc. So...my total fill now is 3.5 cc on a 10cc band. I'm feeling pretty good right now. Not looking forward to liquids for two days but am looking forward to that additional weight coming off. As for workouts, I've been doing the treadmill for 20 minutes (2.5 to 3.5 speed), 3x a week. Just follow doctor's orders. Good Luck!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
