I was 3-1-12 as well and the chest pain is terrible. Today I just started getting the really bad pain in my right rib cage, maybe I just didn't notice before because of the worst nausea from not having had a bowel movement until yesterday. It's tough but I'm glad I did it!

hi everyone ..

well... i had my appointment with my specialist this morning about 11.30am. i was nervous. i shouldnt have been though, he was very nice, very quiet, gentle and open to lots of questions from me.

my hubbie pushed his way in behind me, lol, a bit of a surprise, normally he would much rather sit and read the paper in the waiting room.

Anyway, im having my lapband surgery done on the 21st march..

get this though.. i dont have to go on any fast or liquid diet at all leading up to the surgery. nothing at all. im amazed. i asked him why and he said... ''why do it when it really doesnt make things any different for me or you''.. so, that left me wondering .

Ive already ordered some barley green ,which is highly nutritious, has all the Vitamins and minerals, etc, so i will start on that as soon as i get it.

I have to go on a liquid diet for at least two weeks afterwoods, just as same as you do, progress very slowly after the surgery. im in overnight as well.

i talked with the specialist about the coroners case that was in the court here right now and he told me everything that went on. i felt really bad that the press wasnt printing the truth of it all. anyway, we had a good talk about it all.

He told me that he has to go into court tomorrow Apparentley the patient wasnt well, was admitted to the hospital. it was a friday. The specialist has his clinic underneath the main hospital area. She spent a night in the hospital, not well, but was a very difficult patient to handle as she wanted to be discharged.. without the drs consent. she had been banded ten days.

AS well as , her mother was on the phone to the specialist in his ear... it was most unpleasant i believe. i didnt ask why things got so bad, but the patient and her family were pushing for her to leave.

A call was made to the specialist by the ward sister... and the specialist, who had a patient with him at the time, released the patient by phone without seeing her just prior to leaving.

This needed to come out in the coronial sitting in court this past week but for some reason it hasnt been talked about. Wilkie, the specialist, said that he was going on the stand tomorrow. i said, ''surely, the truth will be given a chance to be spoken..''' ya think?... i hope it is...

When it was time for me to go in i was very relaxed. his waiting room was full...two ladies behind reception. i soon found out that one of the receptionists is from our area, and has a shack not far from where we live. From then on it was like '' old homes week'' lol. which was good. As she weighed me, she told me that she had a band put in six years ago, and she looks really good. we talked a bit about it.

I had plenty of questions for Wilkie, asked him about the gastric sleeve and he talked for some time about that. convinced me that it wasnt the way to go. not for me anyway. He told me lots of things, abut where the port will go ,ect ect... we covered many issues . i was in there over an hour.

So, there you have it. The appointment i was dreading so much is over and i have a date now for surgery.

i dont have any fill at the time the band is inserted. there will be four fills in twelve months all going well. we talked about foods etc. i have to talk with a dietician... i will ring her. No other appointments at all, only to see the anaesthesiasts.. and thats it.

Im going to modify my eating starting from this coming weekend. that will give me two weeks or careful eating. cutting down on carbs and more Protein. using the barley green.

I dont have to be admitted until 11.30am on the 21st so thats good. i stay overnight and go home the next day.

now ive written this book.. lol.. sorry to be so long winded, but i was really a mess and was having second thoughts about it all. There is no doubt that Wilkie is a very clever surgeon... but all surgery is a risk, as he said today regarding the lady who died.

o..k... im outta here. lol... congrats to all you dear people who have been banded the last 24 hours... ive been thinking of you all... and im still reading up on everyone. i love the interaction on here. g'night from australia.. xxx

Sharon, great idea. It's confusing I was contemplating doing another Facebook page w new name just dedicated to lap band so I can post and people can chime in etc but then you have to create a new email account as well. Still think its a good idea. My hubby even set me up. I think it could work well. Just a thought

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
