Congrats to all the March bandsters who have made it to the other side! I got my surgery time 0730 this Friday!! I am getting pre-op jitters. I teach this stuff to nursing students but as the patient it takes on a whole new meaning. My fiance is fantastic though, so supportive, so encouraging, a true partner in my lifes journey. He has decided to try any and everything new in my diet. We only live 15 minutes from the surgery center so I don't have to get up too early. I have to be there at 0630 and since I don't need makeup or a hair style, it should be up at 6 and out the door LOL.

We spent the weekend trying the various Protein shakes. Gold Standard by far the best tasting, choc van and straw and far better in milk vs Water . As for those with fruit punch, straw. kiwi.........YUK

Off to teach seniors about Diabetes.............should I assume they have read the chapter???? Probably NOT

Congratulations to all the new banders :)

I'm scheduled for March 30...so so so so nervous.

Know I want to be skinny....didn't succeed on my own....every few months I'm just going up and up a few pounds (now up forty five pounds since I quit smoking in 2008).....and I have a feeling it will just continue as food has become my new addiction....the band should take care of that...right? :)

Thanks! I just don't know how my Dr will be about it. They seem so serious about nothing but water/protein shakes for two weeks. I need the 8th to get here soon (my pre-op and Dr visit).. Surgery the 9th! 1 wk left yay

Yvonne, I doubt there is too much real MILK in th sugar free Jello pudding cups, maybe try those with some Protein Powder stirred in?

Hi all!

I have now completed everything and waiting to hear back from the insurance company. My fingers and toes are crossed. I am really hoping to join the March Bandsters!

I am sorry, I need to tell about my recent experience during this process. Recently I had to completed my Psych evaluation (the very last thing). The very first person I went to (approved by my doctor) was a woman who had her masters and licensed counselor. After meeting with her 2 different times she proceed to tell me she would write the letter, but she had reservations about me having the surgery and would state that in the letter. It was obvious you didn't know anything about the lap surgery, I had to explain what the surgery was. She told me in her heart she felt that if I felt good about myself that the weight would come off. She referred me to the medi weight loss center. If you don't know anything about Medi weight loss they have a very strict diet that you take like 10 pills Vitamins a day, B12 injections and Appetite suppressant. She felt that the 6 week diet after surgery (liquid diet, mushy food) was not enough time to learn how to eat better and that I would just end up back at square 1 unlike the medi weight loss that is teaching you healthy way for the rest of your life. I walked out crying. Thank goish for the support from my family I started calling other doctors as soon as possible. I completed last week and they were faxing my recommendation this week.

It does feel like everything is going to fall out. It feels stitched tight and for me feels better if I support my belly. Tried a back thingy but it's too bulky maybe it will work for you. U guess they pulled things tight w a hernia. Keep healing. Youll get there.

To aemh...Wishing you the best of luck with the process..I am so upset right now..I just received the denial from my insurance company stating that even though my BMI is 39.5, I don't have any other co-morbidities to approve the surgery..I am going to appeal this because I have a strong family history of diabetes and heart disease, even though I don't have it yet, I am on the road to getting it! wouldn't they rather me avoid it now?? anyone have any suggestions on appealing this? thanks..Karen

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
