Has anyone tried to doing Zumba while having lapband? You can lose up to 1000 calories in a hour while doing Zumba. If anyone has tried it please let me know what the outcome was. Did it assist in you losing a lot of weight?

I just started Zumba this past week. I will let you know how it goes. Between journaling my food intake and Zumba, I'm hoping to see a drop in lbs.

Tha calories you burn in Zumba class can depend on how hard your instructor is. Regardless of the instructor Zumba will burn a lot of calories. The number of calories also varies from person to person, doing an hour for someone who weighs 100 pounds may only burn 300 calories but, someone 400 pounds would burn about 1200 to 1500, I dont know actual numbers but, you see what I mean. Good Luck

I started Zumba this week,, I'm sure it will help. My only problem is that im only a little over 2 months out of surgery and my port site was hurting so I had to take it a little easy.

I had surgery 1/10/12, follow up was 1/16/12, and I started ZuMbA on on the 19th. (Yes my Dr. cleared me). I of course started out making major modifications as to be safe and feel "ok" while doing it. Now I'm full on for the most part. Absolutely LOVE it! I just started, so don't really have a weightloss correlation to tell you about, but I'll let you know!

I started zumba 6 weeks after my surgery. I absolutely love it. I try to go at least 4-5 times a week. The above post as how many calories you loose it completely right, it all depends how hard to do it, and it also depends a lot on the instructors. I take classes from 4 different instructors and some give you a better workout then the other. As far as my weight I'm 5 months out started at 248 and of this morning I'm down to 198 but more then my weight drop I feel that Zumba is shaping my body, I have a waist again, my arms and legs are getting skinny but not floppy. It's just a great workout. I actually look forward to my Zumba class.

I hate zumba. For somebody who can't dance its an awful awful workout. I could not keep up with the moves for one second...I don't understand how all of you big people do it. And I'm not talking about how much you break a sweat, I'm talking about learning the dance moves themselves. I could not do ONE of those moves from the beginning dvd! For me, I get wayy better work outs from Walk Away The Pounds, Brazil Butt Lift and Jillian Michaels. I need an actual work out...not dancing...but hey that's just my preference....so if you're like me and don't like dancing then its NOT for you trust me.

It sounds as though most of you enjoy zumba. I'm having a time with weight loss. 2 yrs out and only lost 50 lbs. I suppose I'm not trying hard enough. I just started to exercise really last week hoping it will get me back on the right track. Now I will be searching for a zumba class. I used to be sore a lot around the port area and thought that It would be too painful. I'm not having soreness now so this is inspiring and I'm giving it a shot. Wish me luck!

I think Zumba is awesome. I am almost 10 months post surgery and down 70 pounds my go to exercise is Zumba i do it at least 4 times a week at the YMCA, i also have it on my Nintendo Wii for days i dont go to the gym. I absolutely love it. And the posters above are right calories burnt depends on your weight and intensity of the workout. I burn anywhere between 550 - 850 calories depending on how intense the work out is. You should give it a go I am sure u would love it. I am a certified ZumbaholicBanane20.gif

I'm starting back at Curves on Wednesday (hopefully my doctor clears me tomorrow at my 30-day checkup/fill), which I'll do 3 days a week. I'm going to try the Zumba class which is one night a week, which will leave me with the treadmill the other 2 days. If you don't like to exercise, check out Curves. It's resistance training, its only women, and its only 30 minutes. I have really missed it and am looking forward to going back. Plus they have a nutrition program, too, if you're interested in that.

If I can do it, ANYONE can - I hate exercise (but its a necessary evil!)!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
