Help...hernia Around Port Site

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone has ever experienced a hernia by the port site after surgery. I have been having shooting pains by my port for about 2 weeks now. I went to my surgeon yesterday and he said I have a small hernia which is why I am in so much pain. I am not quite sure what I did that caused it, but he said surgery would probably make it worse and it would heal on its own. So, if you have experienced this, how long did it take to heal. I've been in so much pain the past two days, I finally took a pain pill hoping it alleviate some of it. I was so excited to have my first fill on February 1st but now I have to wait until February 15th to see if I am feeling better. Any feedback at this point would be greatly appreciated!

I hate to tell you this, but hernias do not heal on their own. And yes, it's because of the surgery. Hernias are caused by a weakness in the muscles of the abdominal walls and surgery causes that.

It bothers me your doctor told you that. I've had problems with hernias a couple times, and I can tell you from experience they never get better only bigger and more painful the longer they go untreated. And treating them is fixing them via surgery.

Talk to your surgeon again, but if he still insists it'll heal on it's own, you might want to consider a second opinion.

Yes, henias dont heal. But unless theyre causing real problems, its often difficult to get a doctor to repair them as so often they just recur.

Ive been fobbed off for years by gp's over my 'incisional hernias' at each end of my caesar scar. When i showed my colorectal surgeon, he freaked. They're advanced inguinal henias with quite a lot of bowel and omentum protruding, and at jigh risk of strangulation. Theyre getting fixed in March. I never knew i had them till i lost weight! But theyve grown heaps!

So do keep getting them checked out when you visit the doc.

I had a hernia, but the Dr took care of it when he did the surgery. Hope you get it fixed soon. Good luck with the weightloss and on your journey!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
