Jennabe, have you tired eating some sugarfree popsicles? I ate a lot of those the first couple of weeks. My dr also sold some high Protein Soups, though honestly they weren't very good!

I had this happen also, but in a different way. I attended a family event when I was allowed to eat normal. This event had the mother of all spreads, but being that I was still recovering I opted for some veggies and other little foods. When I sat down at the table you could hear a pin drop. I think I made everyone feel bad I was only eating so little.

Take these moments and count them up because you will have a lot of them.

It's getting easier now. Actually a lot better since my doc let me add some mushies early. Having something with substance has helped.

But has any of you messed up and actually ate regular food after surgery? Or is it impossible? I would be terrified to mess anything up...But I just want to know if anyone has done that!!

It is not impossible, but you would only be hurting yourself in the long run. Post-Op diets are put into place for a reason. I cringe when I read a story about someone saying "I'm sorry, but I screwed up" in a 12 paragraph post on how they went out with friends to a buffet 3 weeks Post-Op. The time and restrictions after surgery are done so you and the band heal. You don't want your stomach moving around a lot and having to do a ton of work while the band sets into place and heals. You are right in saying you don't want to mess anything up. I always say, 5 or 8 weeks of hell Post-op for a lifetime of change and healthly living. Bad eating habits are what got most of us here in the first place, no time than the better right after Surgery to make the right choices and make some big changes.

Omg thank you Mr. Green for your response. ...I can't even believe someone would be able to do that ...I thought it was physically impossible....now it makes a little more sense as to why people say they don't like the band or it didn't work for them...because they don't do it right.

I am just 3 days post op and still doing clear liquids...very, very, hard...came home hungry. Families don't mean to be inconsiderate they just may not understand how hard it is for us, I know I wasn't expecting it to be this hard. I had pie in the sky dreams of never being hungry and just breezing through the recovery phase. What a joke, I feel like I am in a self-imposed concentration camp, my stomach just growls and growls...if yours is doing that hopefully it will ruin their meal 001_tt2.gif

do the physicians usually let you move up to Phase II after the 1st week because I swear I won't make it another week on the clear fluids...

My husband and girls tried real hard to be careful not to eat in front of me, my husband would call and warn me he was bringing pizza or chinese food home LOL funny thing is I didn't want any of those things. I had to convince them it was fine to eat in front of me. I began cooking for them again about the first week after surgery. The hard part is I've been cooking nice healthy meals for them that look and smelled so good. So tempting but I had a mind set that I wasn't going to eat anything until my 2 weeks of clear/full liquids was finished. I'm starting to feel the hunger a little but know I'll be cleared for solids real soon!! Saturday after i picked up pizza and made the kids plates, my mom said "I don't know how you can watch us eat this and not pick up a piece, you are 1 strong woman" I took that as a compliment but it's my new band-mindset.. 3 weeks ago I would have been 5 slices in!

OMG! I so know what you mean, my partner would actually bring home the little cordial cherries when she made a 7-11 run, she would be like …”What????? it’s just one, it won’t hurt you”, or in the middle of movie night, she would pop off, “ WOW! doesn’t an ice cream Sundae from Braums sound sooooo good right now??????” and then the time she stopped by taco bell and got a burrito supreme, she asked if I wanted a bite. And out of nowhere I screamed “NO! I DON’T WANT A BITE I WANT THE WHOLE F*#%IN THING”!. (being on liquids and mushies does strange things to you), when a year before, she would have been rewarded for doing any of the above things with at least a big smile.

I know she loved me and cared about me, they just don’t understand, I believe they think that because we are banded that we have no desire or carvings for those “no no” foods anymore . To be honest, before I got banded that is what I thought……

Things are so different now, (after a few “REALLY?” stink eyes and unexpected walks around the block) we plan healthy meals together and she has actually started working out with me. (she don’t need to at all)

But just in case, I try to always be prepared with a package of almonds, yogurt or a quick lean cuisine to pop in the microwave, just last night I caught her eating a leftover marshmallow chocolate Santa she had hiding under the covers, it made me smile knowing that even today, she is still trying.

so dont let it get to you, I think in time it should get easier for you because they will start to understand.

I understand how you feelnonod.gif I had to spend the night in the hospital after my surgery and because all the rooms on the Bariatric floor were taken, I got to spend the night on one where people received hot cooked meals. Talk about cruel. Usually hospital food doesn't seem all that appetizing, but when your starving 2 weeks prior to surgery, it smells 5 star.

I'm just glad I had a private room and didn't have to watch them eat. lol

I did mess up and ate one meat empanada about 1 week post surgery i had pain all night and it finally digested, stayed on my plan since that day. It was not a big empanada, maybe 1/2 cup of food just type of food- way too heavy. Been good ever since.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
