NJ2NC got a reaction from Savannah26 in I Know... You've Heard This Before...I understand where you are coming from. I have 2 very (sports) active kids and I'm active in a few organizations which result in lots of picking up food on the go and Fridays are normally dine out or order in nights. I thought long and hard about how surgery would allow me to fit in with all of that. I realized my health was more important than fast food and making adjustments will be well worth it. I'm almost 4 weeks post op and on soft foods and ts been ok, on family sit-down meals I cook healthy for everyone, we choose KFC for Friday dinner out (I had some grilled and pulled off the skin w/ green beans). So far all is well.

NJ2NC got a reaction from Holly Dolly in So Frustrated...My husband and girls tried real hard to be careful not to eat in front of me, my husband would call and warn me he was bringing pizza or chinese food home LOL funny thing is I didn't want any of those things. I had to convince them it was fine to eat in front of me. I began cooking for them again about the first week after surgery. The hard part is I've been cooking nice healthy meals for them that look and smelled so good. So tempting but I had a mind set that I wasn't going to eat anything until my 2 weeks of clear/full liquids was finished. I'm starting to feel the hunger a little but know I'll be cleared for solids real soon!! Saturday after i picked up pizza and made the kids plates, my mom said "I don't know how you can watch us eat this and not pick up a piece, you are 1 strong woman" I took that as a compliment but it's my new band-mindset.. 3 weeks ago I would have been 5 slices in!

NJ2NC reacted to okiekatt in So Frustrated...OMG! I so know what you mean, my partner would actually bring home the little cordial cherries when she made a 7-11 run, she would be like …”What????? it’s just one, it won’t hurt you”, or in the middle of movie night, she would pop off, “ WOW! doesn’t an ice cream Sundae from Braums sound sooooo good right now??????” and then the time she stopped by taco bell and got a burrito supreme, she asked if I wanted a bite. And out of nowhere I screamed “NO! I DON’T WANT A BITE I WANT THE WHOLE F*#%IN THING”!. (being on liquids and mushies does strange things to you), when a year before, she would have been rewarded for doing any of the above things with at least a big smile.
I know she loved me and cared about me, they just don’t understand, I believe they think that because we are banded that we have no desire or carvings for those “no no” foods anymore . To be honest, before I got banded that is what I thought……
Things are so different now, (after a few “REALLY?” stink eyes and unexpected walks around the block) we plan healthy meals together and she has actually started working out with me. (she don’t need to at all)
But just in case, I try to always be prepared with a package of almonds, yogurt or a quick lean cuisine to pop in the microwave, just last night I caught her eating a leftover marshmallow chocolate Santa she had hiding under the covers, it made me smile knowing that even today, she is still trying.
so dont let it get to you, I think in time it should get easier for you because they will start to understand.

NJ2NC reacted to suzbuni in Am I Going To Lose Friends Over My Lapband?Yes I heard all the same comments and even more. One of my best friends tried to talk me out of surgery. When, she realized I wasn't changing my mind she said. " well, what am I going to do, I'm not big enough for surgery. How am I suppose to keep up?" She was scared I would be skinny and she would still be over weight.( not by very much). She is good now, but as the weight is dropping off and her is staying the same, I can tell she is not pleased with herself. When I go to the gym and she says. "you need to take me with you, why did you go without me? I need to get in shape!" I replied- I DID call you and ask if you wanted to go, remember? So she said next time make me go. haha. Most of my friends and family have been really supportive. I know it not easy change for some people. It changes their own self preceptions. My sister had WLS in september. Ironically we both had set up our first appointments with the surgeons the same timeframe but didn't know the other sister was doing it. She called me and told be she was thinking about having WLS, and I laughed and told her my appointment with doctor was in two days. She had allready been seeing a nutriutionist for over a year so she got approved and had surgery done within a month of that call. I just had mine done last month. It worked out great because she was there for me when my turn came around. Let me know what worked and didn't work for her. She has always been the heavier the sister. And I have to be honest, It stung a little inside, when she first told me her weight was under mine. So I kind of understand how that feels. But I was am happy for her and how healthy she was becoming. I'm her biggest fan and she is my greatest support! We send photos back and forth and text our new weights to each other. Last time I took a picture of me standing on scale - I had dropped to 218(from 256 highest)lbs. she wrote back. PLEASE , now that you lost all this weight, treat yourself to a pedicure before you send another photo like that. Scary toes!

NJ2NC got a reaction from suzbuni in Am I Going To Lose Friends Over My Lapband?Yes I did have my surgery Tuesday morning..Day 2 isn't so bad. I haven't had any nausea and very little gas. Soreness is getting better I actually skipped a dose a pain medicine by accident. Guess I really didn't need it lol I'm taking it easy and walking a few times throughout the day, sipping Water and Protein shakes without issue. I feel great and have no regrets. I'm looking forward to a healthier and more active life!
Everyone is so supportive! thanks.

NJ2NC got a reaction from sweetmfl in Day 1 Of Band Life..Hello everyone, I was told I did great in surgery no complications. I did stay the night..thank goodness for that the inclining bed was a life saver. I was afraid of how much soreness I would have post-op but I have to admit it was manageable, I did ask for pain meds several times tho. Walking was good seem to help a lot I walked the halls each time I was disconnected to use the restroom. Now I'm home on the couch with everything I need within an arms reach. Everyone is so supportive on this site. Thanks to you all.

NJ2NC got a reaction from pussnboots in Tomorrow Is Almost Here..Tomorrow morning I go in at 8:30am. I'm so excited I can barely relax. I've read so much on this forum and realized some people range from little discomfort to major pain post-op. I really hope I fall in the "little discomfort" category lol. I found out last week I definitely have to stay overnight due to sleep apnea I am beginning to think that is going to be a great thing..round the clock medication haha.
It's weird, I'm not worried about any steps of the surgical procedure but I am about post op pain. Go figure.
Keep me in your thoughts and prayers..

NJ2NC got a reaction from mandyMO in Am I Going To Lose Friends Over My Lapband?Hello Everyone,
Tuesday Jan 17th is my big day to get banded I'm so excited it's been a long "well worth the wait" journey. In addition to my family I've shared my lapband journey with my closest friends and a few close co-workers. All through the journey everyone have been very supportive but now that I'm down to final week I'm hearing comments from people like "well I guess I better get to the gym now that you're gonna get all skinny" and "I've joined the gym so I can keep up with you" or "you really don't need a lapband if you stay on the diet you're on now (the pre-op diet)" and the best one yet is "don't get to sexy".
I'm not sure how take those comments and I know there will be more. Now I just laugh and say It's not a competition! Has anyone experienced any of these kind of remarks? How did you respond? Its truly not a vanity thing and as people in my closest circle should know but they now only see the 'skinny' aspect of it and not the improved health aspect, could they be possibly jealous?? Has anyone had friend issues since getting banded?
