I wish Shapes was closer to me!! I have one in St. Pete but it's a 20 min drive and for the times I want to go (around work time, etc) It isn't the most convenient.

I am really searching hard for a gym and need to make a decision quick.

This one is almost in Largo/ alt 19- I used to go to St Petes but that was through excrutiating traffic to get to it from 4th street. Now im 15 min away from this one. Pinellas is not that big -just alot of traffic, wish 19 was highway not a traffic light street. Nnyhow gonna try next week to get back on schedule, really wish I had a buddy to meet up with. Good luck in finding right place,

Fla Banders, i am from Fort Pierce. I get my band on March 19 at JFK lake Worth. I am looking for someone in my area because there is no close support group. Blog friends would be great too who are following this path and can advise me with whatever develops. Scared, excited, ready for a healthier life.

Hello Everyone,

Tampa Bay area here, glad to see this group. I am preop, getting the docs, etc all lined up for insurance. Hopefully all goes well and I can get surgery by August. I am nervous, never had any surgery. Also, I am opting for the lap band vs bypass, anxious that I am making the right choice. I do so want to move foward to a healthier, happier life.

Hello, I am from Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. Banded since 2/02/10. Lost 89 lbs and now I think I have to lose another 15 lbs for the normal weight bmi. I am very outspoken when I read posts. However I am really a kind person. i am 64 years now and I am very strict with my program. I am co-leader of 2 teams in Sparkpeople.com. I am Missilene and I am sure that u gals would enjoy it.. lapbandsurgery is the name of the team. It has recipes, exercises. You will meet so many people. Your age, your city, interests.

It is free. and it is so much fun. My main interest for posting this is to meet Florida girls mainly~~I have quite a bit of knowledge and want to learn and teach. i am waiting to be contacted for a job at the center where I had lapand surgery.

Hi everyone. I don't know if I have ever introduced myself. I think it has to do with CRS(can't remember stuff). Anyway, I will be 64 in July. And I live in Lakeland, Fl. I moved here to my retirement home in 2006 right before the housing market crash. It was good for selling my home in Maryland, but really not so good for purchasing a home in Lakeland. Anyway, I had surgey on Oct. 30, 2009. I had lapband revision on Oct 14, 2011. Before my revision, I had met my goal, since revision, I have gained back 15 lbs. So, now, I am fighting to loose that and gain my power back. My surgeon has filled me to 5 cc, and said that anymore would cause me to be overfilled. I know others have been filled more, but I guess I am sensitive to the fills. I am glad to meet you and hope to hear more from you as time goes by. Karen

Florida bandsters, I am from the treasure coast, fort pierce. My lap band was 3/21/12 and I am down 27 lbs. I have had one fill, my second fill is next week. Dr Larson at JFK is my surgeon. I would love to have a band buddy I can occasionally talk with in the area. I am 60yrs old. My BMI was 39 time of surgery, many comorbidities so this weight loss is already making a big difference improving my health. I am originally from TN and lived in OK for 30yrs. I am married, 2 grown children and 3 grand babies...they all live very far away. I wish you all the best in your transformation. MelVan

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
