How Long Before Returning To Work

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery yesterday and feeling pretty good. I don't have my follow up until Jan 12th but I was looking forward to going back to work Jan 9th. I have an office job where I sit a lot of the day and no lifting. How long did everyone wait to return to work?

If you have sick time, I would wait till Dr. appointment. It took me the two weeks just to feel good. I had a hernia repaired too so I was pretty sore. Good luck and I am happy for you!!

I had my surgery on a Thursday and was back to work the following Monday. From 3 hours after surgery I was up walking around and moving. I took it easy at work and the advantage was I only worked Monday-Wednesday, then had 4 days off for Thanksgiving. Listen to your body and rest when you are tired! Best of luck to you...Happy New Years!

I went back on day four, was just tired at the end of my day! I am a grocery checker so I am moving all day, I just did not lift anything heavy. Good luck

Congrats to you .... . I was banded on thursday December 1st, 2011, stayed over one night because my surgeon keeps his sleep Apnea patients for one night just to monitor them . That Monday I was out Christmas Shopping .

I wasn't completely better. I felt good except the little pain at the port sight when standing and bending.

I personally think you'll be fine , but you should really see what your surgeon says .

Good luck and keep us all posted ...

Thanks for all the suggestions. From my surgery date I will be off from work 9 days. I honestly can't believe how well I feel already. I know not to push it but I was kind of thinking that by the end of the 9 days at home I will be going stir crazy, plus I can sit most of the day at work and 'take it easy". I luckily have lots of sick time, but also don't like using it. I'm a "hoarder" of my time.

If you're feeling good already I would go back. I took one week off and I had a quick recovery, just sore by day 3. Surgery Monday, back to work the following Monday and I have a physical job, bending, lifting, on my feet 10 hours. I'm an LVT and felt I could've gone bak sooner.

I know what you mean by going crazy at home. By day 4 I was bored out off my mind. My mom stayed with me a few hours after she brought me home and came for a few hours the next day, but other than that it was just me and my dogs. Luckily 5 days post op was Christmas, so I went to my parents house (only drinking my Protein drinks of course), but at least I had some stimulation...LOL

I had my surgery on Dec 19th and was back to work on Dec 28th. My job is a little physical, but I have good support at work so that I am not lifting much. I actually feel better now that I am working again. My energy is increasing and I just feel better.

My surgery date was 12/21 and I returned to work on 12/27. I wish I could've had a couple more days off, but didn't have any more sick time.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
