So I Guess I Failed Already ......

Recommended Posts

So things were going great at the beginning ..

Down almost 15lbs since December 1st, 2011.

I wasn't hungry AT ALL in the beginning . I was so happy with that and the lard was just melting away .

Now I'm HUNGRY and find myself grabbing BAD Snacks.

I know I know I know ..make better choices . Yeah yeah yeah I know this . Ugh

I'm so aggravated with myself right now , I could REALLY cry....

HELP ... TELL ME SOMETHING !!!

I know what I need to do ... But sometimes having that support there with me and telling me helps.

Songo ahead , give it to me ............;(

I recently had a conversation with a nurse friends who told me she would love to work with bariatric patients. I asked her why and she said, "Because I have so much respect and admiration for people who love themselves enough to make this decision for their health", I remember that when I feel frustrated and want to give up. Remember how strong you are and your commitment and love for yourself and your health. You can do it, because you are worth it.:)

Relax. Once you get a fill or three you'll be back on track. Right now you have no restriction and it's the holidays. Schedule your fill with your Doc as soon as you feel up to it.

This is bandster hell.

First, who says you need to be "full"? How about just satisfied. You need to start separating the head hunger from the real hunger. It is not easy to do. But whenever you feel you need to eat something, ask yourself, is my tummy grumbly hungry or is it my head trying to trick me? If it is your head, drink a bottle of Water and then see if you still are hungry. Works for me "most" times. Not always.

And for gosh sake, throw out the junk food.

Yes, hang in there I am in week three and I can think of all kinds of things to eat but I won't I love cheetos. I have found that popsicles and pudding and yogurt are my best friends when I have those sweet fits and the cheesy fits. So, just talk yourself thru it and find another out and a healthier craving.

I'm on all liquids still, my kids are home eating popcorn by the truck full. It is driving me crazy. I grabed a hand and was eating it til my husband notice hit it out of my hand. He yelled "liquid- not popcorn!" I had to go hide in my room so I won't steal any more popcorn. I want my post op visit to be soon then it is 1/5 so maybe get a fill. , scared that I won't. Can't wait to kids go back to school and stop munching on everything. I wanted to eat thing today I don't even like, just to I could chew I think. I ran to store and got more greek yogurt and ate it very slowly. Hang in there we got this!

You were banded less than a month ago, which means you are still within the healing phase to get you back to "NORMAL"

NORMAL as in though they way you were before you had the surgery. With all the same appetites, etc.

People get hung up about "Loosing weight" within this first segment. It is not. It is about getting the surgery, and healing 100%, and getting you back to that place of being healthy, and "Normal" in order to be ready for what lies ahead.

Everyone I know who has ever had any type of major surgery with a pre-op and post-op eating program of liquids, etc, has lost weight. Has nothing to do with the lap band!

If you are eating, and feeling all these emotions, then your post-op time is about over and you are ready to start getting on with the weight loss program.

But believe me, you have not started it yet! You have only gotten prepared for it!

You say things were great in the beginning? You're not even at the beginning yet!

But judging by your frustration, I can tell you are ready to get it on.

You'll be fine.

This process takes time, I am right there with you and I was banded in October! I have had two fills and the second one really worked but only for about 3 weeks. As you heal, your band loosens up, They fill you a little bit at a time. You will get there, and dont beat yourself up lots of people gain during bandster hELL!! it is discouraging, I am fighting against two pounds for the last two weeks, it goes up then back down. Driving me nuts but I know my next fill is gonna be the one, (I think) Because I had so much restriction on my second fill that the weight fell off. But now not so much. Just be patient and give yourself time to heal and get through the fill process before you deem yourself a failure!!

sugar free popsicles are really good and help with the need to munch and are considered liquid.< /p>

My suggestion is prepare lots of " your foods" I bought 2 dozen small plastic containers and filled them up with Jello or jello and yogurt parfait, green pea Soup, onion soup, and today making black bean soup and maybe some squash soup and it will be at my fingertips. Yest I took 4 of these and my milkshake on my shopping trip etc and my kids bought me a nice lunch bag- and I ate the same way I would have fed my babies 40 yrs ago, every 3/4 hours. I think preparation helps.

Thanks for the feed back every one ... It really does help .

I know the first 4-6 weeks is all about healing . But the first 3 weeks I was not hungry at all .. I thought ,WOW I love this LB. Then I feel like I'm right back to how things were before surgery . So I got a little discouraged .

Im so damn impatient lol ugh ..

Ok .. In the voice of George Lopez.......I GOT THIS !!!!! Lol

Oxoxo thank you all

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
