Post Lap Band Surgery Op Pain

Recommended Posts

Hi, everyone. I was banded 12-07-11 and my chest discomfort finally went away today. However, I still experience umbilical and port site pain which is worst with movement. I don't feel hungry at all but I've been trying to follow the post-op diet instructions. I've lost 16 pounds since I started the 2 week pre-op high Protein diet. I'm feeling depressed though!

I think that is normal, because I felt that way too. Give yourself a couple of weeks to return to your normal happy self. It just gets better!!

Hi Lou, I was banded on 12/7 also. I have lost 14 pounds since my preop diet. I guess I was pretty lucky with the pain, my worst pain was in my legs from pushing myself up in the hospital bed.Did your doctor give you any pain medication? Mine gave me some liquid loritab, but I use is sparingly. like a TEASPOON in the morning and maybe one in the afternoon if my tummy starts hurting. Yesterday I decided to clean my house and cleant the bathrooms and my tummy is pretty sore today from it. I have been doing the broth, Jello (at room temp), and hot apple cider to get me through. Yesterday I had my Protein Tomato Soup for lunch which was a nice change. Some friends came by yesterday and really boosted my ego when they said that I looked great and they could already tell that I had lost some weight. Just think of all the great things we will be able to do when we are thinner!!! chin up and start saying goodbye to all those plus sized clothes! Hope this helps!

Unforunately what you are experincing is normal. There are going to be days after you are months post op that your port is going to hurt. You can laugh on minute and make your port hurt. It takes your body up to 6 weeks or longer to heal. Just take it one day at a time. I was in HELL for the first ten days I am one of those individuals who get with because of the anesthia. Once I removed the patch behind my ear it was horrible. I got motion sickness from riding in teh car. I am going to say even with that. and having my stoma because stuck with food. I would do this all over again. I wish I would have done this sooner.. I promise its soo freaking worth it later down the road. just concentrate on healing..

It definately takes a few weeks for the surgery initial pains to completely go away. And then, as prior poster said, you can still have pain from time-to-time. But so worth it in the long run. Since I've had the surgery, I've slept better than I have in years. Don't know why. However, because of this, I am sleeping in one position most of the night. And usually on my port side. When I wake up in the morning, my port is just howling. But it is ok. Cause it reminds me that it is there and that I need to listen to it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
